Unit 3: Short Story Essay Prompt

Think about the themes expressed in the short stories we have read throughout the
course of this unit. Identify a theme from one of the stories and consider how the author
revealed it through the plot.
Write an essay in which you determine a theme from one of the short stories you have
read and analyze, in detail, its development over the course of the text. Be sure to
explain how the theme emerges, and how it is shaped and refined by specific details.
Use relevant facts, concrete details, quotations, and/or other information to develop
your ideas. Be sure to give your essay a concluding paragraph.
