Philosophy of Teaching Technology
Does technology belong in the classroom? As we advance further into the 21st century
technology does indeed belong in the classroom. Its quite clear schools are integrating
technology more and more into their facilities. Smartphones, smart boards, tablets, laptops, and
social media have become second nature to many students, parents and teachers. As a future
teacher, I believe that technology is a powerful tool that could be used to enhance a students
learning. Also, technology helps students acquire the skills they need to survive in a more
complex, technological era.
There are several ways I could incorporate technology in my future classrooms. The free
IPad app Common Core Quest is a great app that can be utilized by my future students. It gives
students the opportunity to practice their Common Core Standards in both math and language
arts. Also, the new IPad app Leaf snap is a great free app that can be used in a science class.
The purpose of this app is to help students identify plants by taking pictures of them on their
IPads. With Leafsnap installed a student can identify with the help of the apps visual
recognition technology the name of the plant. The app Edmodo is a great app as well. It
provides a free, safe place for teachers and students to connect and collaborate at anytime and
anywhere. Another similar app to Edmodo is Moddle Mobile. It helps students provide
access to content, messaging and notifications that teachers publish.

Aside from all the fun activities that can come along with technology its important that
teachers are meeting the needs of ALL students. I feel that technology can do that by changing
the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach to all types of learners.
According to Lisa Wahl and Julie Duffield, Technology Simple graphics software and word
processors, as well as resources and tools found on the Internet, offer students a variety of ways
to access content, work with information to develop understanding, and demonstrate what they
know(Wahl, Duffield, 2005). Simple software such as Microsoft Word can really assist a
student. It has certainly helped me with my spelling and grammar. I would look more closely at
all the programs. I would at the end choose the one that benefits all my students. Also, I could
expand my lectures by including web resources such as, historical documents, literature, news
articles, maps, charts graphs and many more resources that can benefit all my students.
Overall, I feel that technology is very important in the classroom. Not only does it help
students prepare for the future but it can also help their learning. I cant imagine teaching without
technology. I feel as if technology is going to be a big part of my classroom and the future
classrooms of America. I really want the best for all my students and I feel that technology is the
best way to enhance there learning. It will also make my lectures more fun and interesting. Most
importantly, its important that I educate myself about the use of technology in the classroom
before I actually start to implement technology. As technology and different applications
become more widespread and readily available, we need to be sure that our teacher education
majors know how to use them in the classroom to enhance learning, said Amee Adkins,
associate dean of the College of Education (Navickas, 2012). Im glad that Im looking deeply at
this topic. Hopefully, soon I will be to have my own classroom and incorporate technology in my
lessons.
