Midterm Assignment

Part A: Back in my first blog post I had many questions, and now Im able to answer some of
them, such as question 10 asking whether we would work in groups often. So far we work in a
groups for a good amount of the class, as peer editing is a good portion of our class. I am also
able to answer question 8, saying that there will be four major assignments. The answer to
question 6 that I have found is, no we do not use our blogs as our main form of writing, but
rather a tool to accomplish most of our writing. Question 7 has shown me that we usually do
have plenty of time to finish an assignment. So far, in regards to question 4, I havent
encountered anything that says we will have any tests other than the final. For question 5 I
understand that participation means going to class and paying attention. For question 1 I have
learned that the book is used for our RRL papers, at least so far thats all it is used for. I still
have yet to find an answer to question 3, though from what Ive seen, extra credit doesnt look
promising. Question 9 is more of a philosophical question than an on paper one, so I will have
to find that out at the end of the course.

Part B: With the process and revision concept, we are reviewing the literacy narratives pretty
heavily because it is such an important grade. All of the workshops and peer editing we are
conducting in order to make our papers presentable and get the best grade possible from them
is really helping us learn our own strengths and weaknesses in our writing and is giving us an
opportunity to fix them, rather than just turn them in. I assume that the providing and receiving
section also means the peer editing as we are providing constructive criticisms of each others
writing, while also being told what we can fix with our own papers. The independent inquiry
seems a little more challenging simply because Im not sure if we have done this yet, so Im not
very sure what to expect from it. The writing section seems fairly self-explanatory because we
are all writing our own thoughts and stories into our papers, as well as it being a writing class,
so of course there is going to be writing necessary for this course.

Part C: My favorite revisions was when I had done the first draft I had taken it literally as our
literacy development, completely forgetting the whole going over the different types of literacy
in class, and just writing about my reading and writing literacy. Luckily we werent turning in the
paper, and my peer editing group quickly told me what I needed to fix in order to do the
assignment correctly. It is a little difficult to quote everything I did to fix this problem, but
basically I just added on to my paper I had already written writing about the different sports I

had played, the new ways I had to make friends as I moved every couple of years and so on. I
did like the in-depth analysis we made of a certain event in our lives as it let me connect to my
story much more easily and let the thoughts flow through my head more. To quote it, God was
supposed to be in charge of your education, so the teachers prayed that I could catch up and
sort of just left it at that. To sort of explain this quote, I was falling behind in my writing
abilities in my new private school because of unknown ADHD. The catholic school just hoped I
would get better instead of actually help me.

Part D: I am talking about the first sample e-portfolio. The author is talking about herself and
how writing has influenced her life, as well as trying to relate her own experiences of the world
to her audience which would be in this case anyone who happens to read this blog, because to
me the obvious audience isnt clear, unless it would be other college writing students. The text
is trying to convey its message using metaphors, such as in her final e-portfolio essay, as well as
trying to simplify all of her own experiences for people who have never even imagined them
before, such as the way she is dumbing down her portrait of a writer paper. It becomes
relatable to the everyday person this way, and can then be enjoyed by everyone especially
people who would always maybe want to play basketball but never did. This e-portfolio doesnt
speak to me in ways of a typical genre, however it does remind me of the holocaust museum in
Washington DC, in the way that at the very beginning you can obtain a diary of someone that
went through it and it explains their story. This e-portfolio is taking you through her life as she
lived it and really seems to be able to put you in her shoes. I would say that this e-portfolio was
a successful one.

Part E: I am not totally sure what my grade is in this class, but I havent done one of the
assignments, and I didnt write my first blog post to your standards as it was shorter than
necessary. However, I have done the rest of my work what I believe to be to your standards, so
I think my grade would be around a C. After seeing the other peoples e-portfolios I can see
that I am not directly heading toward having a great one, however I can still change it so that I
am going to be on the correct path to have a good e-portfolio. With this in mind, I do have a
question about when we will be able to see how our grades are in this class. Im still in the
current mindset of high school where I was able to view my grades practically whenever I want,
as well as there being so many grades that one bad one wouldnt be the end of your grade. I
just want to check on my grades and make sure I am doing well.
