Write an overview of your student teaching experience.

Talk about how your NSC education classes and/or

instructors helped shape your experience. Are there things
that you wish NSC could have provided prior to student
teaching? This reflection only needs to be about 2
paragraphs in length. Discuss what you learned about
being a teacher that you didn't know. Have your views
changed about teaching now that you've done your
student teaching? Talk about 3 - 5 lessons that you
learned.
I have had such a positive experience attending NSCs education program. I feel
that the classes have taught me how to create engaging and detailed lesson plans. The
professors in the education program created assignments that were useful during my
student teaching. I also think the diagnostics course I took at NSC was great because it
prepared me for the exact assessments I saw inside the classroom. One thing I would
change about the program is the classroom experience. I wish I would have had more
experience with teaching in a real classroom. I would have liked to have had more of an
opportunity to teach in the classroom before student teaching.
I learned a lot about being a teacher. One major lesson I learned in my first grade
classroom was about differentiated teaching. Our classroom had students that were
above grade level, at grade level, below, and even students who had never been to
kindergarten. I learned to teach many different types of learners so that all students
were engaged and learning. I have also learned a lot about my own teaching
philosophy. I feel more passionate about giving students choice. When students have
choices they become more independent with their learning. I have learned more about
conferring with each student and talking to them about what skills they need to improve
on and then setting goals for themselves. I learned how important it is to group students
based on skill rather than level. I am leaving my classroom with so much more
knowledge than I ever expected. I cant wait to implement all that I have learned into my
very own classroom!
