Literacy Narrative

Growing up I use to love reading in elementary school especially since we had AR points
and if you reached your goal you were able to go on a field trip with all the other students who
also reached their goal. I think thats probably the only reason I liked reading. As I grew up I lost
interest in reading any kinds of books. But one day a friend recommended me to read a book
called A Child Called It she said I would really love reading it. So I took her suggestion and
checked out the book from school. As I started reading it, I couldnt believe what I was reading.
A cold hearted mom would play torture games with her children like if there were just some rag
dolls.
Not to mention she would starve them, they would be lucky if there was any left over
from dinner that their mother ate. Just reading the first chapter broke my heart, how can a mother
treat their children like this! Does she not have a heart? The mother could care less for the
hygiene of her children, she would send them to school with holes in their holes not to mention
the bad odor he had. Lunch would probably be a torture for him, there were days where his mom
wouldnt even pack him lunch and when she did it wouldnt even be a good one. After a while
the teachers noticed something was wrong with him, they called him to the nurses office. As he
sat in the nurse office, the nurse asked him a couple questions and then she said the words does

your mom abuses you. When he heard those weird his heart dropped and panicked, he
immediately said no. No one knew the nightmare he was living through, and preferred no one
to know. He was ready to go back to class and forget what just happened, but the teachers
wouldnt let it go. They already had a suspicion that his mother abuses of him.
As days went by one day he came to school with bruises on his body. He already knew
what to say if they asked. When his teacher saw him he sent him to the nurse office. The nurse
asked him what happened to him and he replied Im just clumsy. The nurse called the
principle, as the principle came in the nurse asked him again if his mom abuses of him. He
finally said yes and begged the nurse and the principle not to tell his mom. This book made me
realize not to judge a book by its cover, we dont know the struggle their going through. No child
needs to get treated like a rag doll. It breaks my heart and makes me so angry knowing how a
mother can be so cruel to her children.
By reading this book I realized I like to read Nonfiction stories. Something that will get
my attention I want to have that feeling where I just want to keep reading and not stop. Ive read
this book twice but never really got the chance to finish reading it. I would always have just a
couple more chapters to go and I would just stop reading. I wouldnt mind reading the book
again and actually finishing it I would love to know where her children ended up at besides her
house. I wrote about this because I hate how some parents just abuse of their children. Dont be a
parent if youre not ready to take care of them. It just breaks my heart knowing this happens on a
daily thing and no one actually knows about it.
