In1896,hisfirstyearatHarvard,hestartedworkinginBowditch'sLab,[4]andin1900hereceivedhis
medicaldegree.
Aftergraduation,CannonwashiredbyHarvardtoinstructintheDepartmentofPhysiology.Hewasa
closefriendofthephysicistG.W.PiercetheyfoundedtheWichtClubwithotheryounginstructorsfor
socialandprofessionalpurposes.In1906CannonbecameHigginsonProfessorandchairmanofthe
DepartmentofPhysiologyatHarvardMedicalSchool,apositionhehelduntil1942.From1914to1916
hewasalsoPresidentoftheAmericanPhysiologicalSociety.
