ENG-111-46

Reflection to English 111
I would describe my writing process as consistent. I feel as if when I write, it all seems to flow,
especially when I have a good topic to write on. When I came into this class, I had background on some
of the topics we discussed throughout this course due to taking Advanced Placement English Language
and Composition. Some of the material we covered came easy to me, and others not so much. I had no
problem writing the research paper, which seemed to have been the hardest paper that we had to write
this semester. However, I did struggle on annotated bibliographies, literary narrative, and the
summary/response essay.
The research paper seemed to be an easy paper in my opinion to write. I think this came from
being able to choose our topics to what we thought was interesting. I chose the legalization of
euthanasia treatments because of my own personal experiences and my interest in going into the
nursing field. It was interesting to research, and when I sat down the six pages seemed to flow right out
of me. I enjoyed writing something that I actually enjoyed learning about. However, the annotated
bibliographies that accompanied this assignment, I did struggle on. The three-sentence annotations
were difficult for me to write because of the amount of information being added to them. I did receive
guidance from Professor Elliott which cleared a lot up for myself to be able to make and effort and write
then again.
I also seemed to struggle on the literary narrative and the summary/response essay, both for
different reasons. The literary narrative was difficult to write seeing that it was focused on my English
course journey in a narrative form. This created a huge writers block for myself. To get a writing process

for this assignment, I went to the SVSU writing center in order to convey my ideas and brainstorm with
somebody else. This helped tremendously. Once I had my idea, I was able to write my story and then
had my roommate proof-read it for me. I felt extremely accomplished when I received a 98% on my first
college essay. I have always struggled with summary/response essays, especially in AP Lang. & Comp. I
had such writers block when starting this essay, but everything began to make sense when I kept
reading and re-reading the essay I was responding to. I overanalyzed a lot of the response elements, and
once I came into realization with that, the essay was simple to complete.
Over this semester, I felt somewhat confident with my writing. Although, with the guidance and
topics I learned in this English 111 course and the help I received from the SVSU writing center, my
confidence level grew even more.
