Read Chapter 3 in Strategies for Teaching Students with


Learning and Behavior Problems.

Create a detailed classroom assessment plan for a child with
one of the following learning issues. If you prefer you may
use a child with whom you are already workingin that case
please provide a brief description of that child.

This student is a kindergartner who doesnt point to letters


when named or tell the correct sound when a letter is
presented.
This student is a 2nd grader who is having difficulty with sight
words and decoding of consonant blends.
This student is a 4th grader who has reading fluency two
grades below his grade level.
This student is a 6th grader who is having difficulty with
reading comprehension.

This plan should include the following:

At least three reportable data points that would be used in


creating a PLAAFP statement*
A way to diagnose the root of the problem
A justification for the choices that were made

*By data points, I am referring to 3 specific assessments that would


indicate the functioning level of the student. For example:
Curriculum Based Measurement (See the ppt on MTSS --if the
child is in Tier 3, there may be progress monitoring data that
can be accessed)
Assessments related to the district reading series
Averages on weekly spelling tests
MAP testing, iSteep testing , state assessments, or other
district-required assessments.

In addition to the information obtained from the modules and the


chapter, use your own background and common sense. How would
you get to the cause or root of the learning problem?

Other Methods that could be used to diagnose or find the root of the
learning problem
iSteep testing, Observer the childs environment and behaviors during
testing he my just need to be moved to a quieter area in order to focus
not that he doesnt know the material.
