Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome to Mr. Muragins Algebra 1 class! I am excited to have the pleasure in having
your child in my class for the 2013/2014 school year. Algebra and its applications are used in
everyday life. By the end of the school year, the student will be primarily focused on functions,
fundamental algebraic arithmetic, geometry, and statistics. The curriculum for this course will
be based off the state standards, which can be found at cpalms.org (a hard copy can be
provided upon request). My classroom and grading policies will be listed below and I encourage
you and the student to please review them and sign an acknowledgment at the end.
I hope you are looking forward to this year as much as I am. If you have any further
questions regarding your childs performance or my policies, please feel free to contact me by
my email or the school phone number that is listed above. Have a wonderful day!
Sincerely
Patrick Muragin

Grading
Homework will be graded as 5% of your grade. It is highly recommended in order to be
successful in this class. We will be covering 8 units. There will be summative assessments after
each unit that are worth 55% of your grade. During the units, there will be quizzes that are
worth 35% of your grade that will be formative assessments. The remaining 5% will be
rewarded for participation in the class, as well as attendance.

Late Policy

Penalties will vary depending on what is turned in late as well as how late it is turned in. 10
points will be deducted from homework each day it is late. After a week and a half without
submission, the student will receive a 0. For missed quizzes and exams, I will allow a week from
the test date to make up the assessment. It is the students responsibility to contact me to
schedule a time to take the assessment whether it is before school or during lunch.
Absent/ Tardiness
It is important to attend class and listen to the lectures. It is the students responsibility to get
in touch with a classmate to record the missed notes. District policies for school attendance and
tardiness can be found at the Volusia County website at myvolusiaschools.org. If you know you
will be absent ahead of time, please notify me so we can work together to plan ahead for what
you will be missing.
Media Consent
A media consent form will be handed out to your child that requires a signature. Without this
form, the student will be unable to participate in any activities or school work involving school
computers.
Student Conduct
Similarly to the media consent form, the student will also receive a state policy for student
conduct.
Accommodations
Any ELL, ESE or ESOL students will receive the necessary accommodations in my class.

I am looking forward to this school year and hearing from you all!
