CHAPTER 6

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of the FEA and its correlation with the experimental tests conducted in the
laboratory. Some recommendations are suggested for further research work.
6.1

Conclusions

Concluding the main findings and results of the previously described numerical simulation and its correlation with
experimental results, the following summary may be drawn:
i.
ii.

Adhesive joint was successfully modeled by using cohesive element to predict adhesive behavior
and strength.
Finite element analysis using ABAQUS/Explicit is able to reproduce satisfactory the loaddeflection response to investigate the crushing behavior and the strength of adhesive bonded butt
joint for the composite fuselage model that were observed in the experimental work.

A reliable FEA model to predict the adhesive joint fabrication miniature composite fuselage structure under
compression was successfully developed. FEA results pertaining to the main crushing characteristics (peak load and
crush energy absorption) are very close to the experimental results where the discrepancy is found to be at 1%.
