THE CONCLUSION and

RECOMMENDATION
MAKING AN ABSTRACT
Session 5 Fundamentals of Thesis Writing
Professor Sarah Lou Ysmael Arriola

THE CONCLUSION

The Conclusion is the RESOLUTION of

the Problem Statement.
It provides for a summary of reasons
why your thesis statement is correct.
It is the synthesis of your thesis.
The Conclusion is 10% of the whole
thesis.

THE RECOMMENDATION

It can come in many forms:

1. Law reform
2. Policy reform
3. Reconciliation of conflicting rulings
4. Formulation of a new theory
It is 10% of your thesis but your thesis will
rise or fall on the strength of your
Recommendation.

THE ABSTRACT

An Abstract is the Executive Summary

of the your thesis.
It is supposed to give the reader a
background of your topic, the contents
of the thesis, and an overview of your
conclusion and recommendations.

THE ABSTRACT

It is usually 1 page, single space and in

italics.
It is only in extraordinary cases when
the Abstract goes beyond one page but
it should not go beyond 1 pages.
Do not reinvent the appearance of the
Abstract.

THE ABSTRACT

An Abstract is supposed to be catchy,

interesting, and impressive.
After your title, it is the second thing
that your panel reads in your thesis and
an Abstract is part of the panels first
impression.
An ABSTRACT SHOULD BE SEXY!!!
It should be COMPELLING!

ATENEO, ONE BIG FIGHT!!!!!
