Activity 1:
Objectives

The student will learn to measure angles and distances as well

as to apply the formulas of projectile motion.

Competenci
es to
Critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, teamwork and
develop
cooperation
Topics
Conic sections; parabolic trajectory; projectile motion
Each team should bring its catapult in order to measure the
Instructions release angle and the horizontal range of a projectile. With
these measurements, they will apply the projectile motion
formulas to find the velocity of the object and the time of flight
of the projectile.

Activity 2:
Objectives

The student will learn to solve optimization problems, getting

acquainted with real-life applications of Differential Calculus.

Topics

First and second derivative tests; extreme values; optimization

problems

The student will watch at home a video with the basic theory
about the method to solve optimization problems. Then the
Instructions
students will work in teams of 3 to analyze and solve in class the
problems assigned by the teacher. Each team will have to
prepare an oral presentation to explain the way to solve the
problems to their fellow classmates.
