NUTRITION EXPERIENCE:
San Francisco, CA
November 2009-2012
Work independently on my own project investigating maturation of the atrial fast conduction system
during heart development in the chicken embryo. This includes participation in experimental design
and interpretation of data. Techniques performed on a regular basis include: dissection and
manipulation of embryonic tissue, in vivo micro injections for fate mapping experiments, and
primary cell culture experiments.
Was awarded an NIH/ National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Post-Baccalaureate
Degree Diversity Research Supplement, which supported my research from January-December
2010.
Participate in weekly lab meeting and prepare oral progress report of my work monthly.
Participate in weekly discussions with the post-docs and principal investigator.
In charge of most of the administrative and maintenance work in the laboratory.
San Francisco, CA
Summer 2008
Assisted in carrying out fate mapping experiments on chicken embryos to investigate early eye
development. Extensive teamwork was involved in these experiments. Good communication and
organization skills were essential to get this work done successfully. Techniques included
dissections, mammalian cell culture, fluorescence microscopy. Was responsible for some data
analysis.
Volunteer Laboratory Assistant
Summer2006
Summer 2007
Prepared stock solutions and performed laboratory maintenance. Good communication skills were
essential to perform all the lab maintenance work.
Conducted DNA and RNA manipulations for vector construction.
