Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods
Media:
5 desktop computers with internet access Will be used to do Google Earth research
project on locating of homes and mapping routes.
1 SmartBoard will be used to project Google Earth for classroom demonstration of proper
usage.
Materials:
Poster board Use poster board to draw homes, landmarks and routes to each others
homes
Pencils Used to draw homes, landmarks and directional routes to each home
Crayons Used to color maps and diagrams of homes and landmarks
Methods:
Whole Group Google Earth Skills TTW make sure each student is knowledgeable of their
address. TTW explain and demonstrate usage of Google Earth on SmartBoard to give
directions and find appropriate landmarks.
Whole Group Instruction of Center Activity TTW introduce the activity. TTW divide class
into small groups of three and assign each group a center and a computer. TSW work
collaboratively to complete the activities.
Whole Group Demonstration of Activity Each group will be given a 10 minute time slot to
present their projects and demonstrate their ability of map skills and usage of Google Earth.
Require Learner Participation
Whole Group Google Earth Skills:
During this time TTW check with each student to make sure they have obtained their correct
address. TTW define and explain the process of giving directions and recognizing
landmarks. TTW ask students to name some landmarks near their home. TTW inform
students to mentally note these locations for a map skills center activity. TTW use the
SmartBoard to demonstrate usage of Google Earth to give directions and of recognizing and
mentioning landmarks.TSW be engaged because they are visually seeing the Google Earth
demonstration.
Whole Group Instruction of Center Activity
TTW will provide a verbal overview of the importance of giving detailed and correct
directions.TTW ask students to brainstorm comparisons to teachers description of their
homes location to the demonstration by the teacher. TTW ask them to think about all the
times theyve driven to and from their house, and what landmarks and streets that they
remember. TTW demonstrate usage of Google Earth by showing her home or another
example to the students. The TTW then demonstrate use of the Google Earth Directional
tool from her home or another example to the school and actively engage the students in
locating landmarks along the way. TTW will then explain the poster board map activity. TTW
divide the class into groups of three and designate specific work areas and computer use.

3
TSW listen to the instructor and work collaboratively to complete their activity. TSW will be
moderately engaged through brainstorming during lecture and more actively engaged
during completion of group activities.
Whole Group Demonstration of Activity:
TTW allot groups ten minutes to present their assignment to the class. TSW present and
explain poster board activity and give proper directions to the designated addresses. TSW
will be actively engaged in presenting their projects to the class.
Small Group Center Activities:
TSW work in groups of three to collaborate on the activity.
Google Earth TSW locate their home and their group members home. Students will
use the directional tool to map their way in between houses. Students will use
markers to identify potential landmarks to note in directions.
Poster Board Activity Each group will draw a map from one students home to the
others and so forth. TSW draw and color their homes and any potential landmarks to
enhance the map.
Presentation Each group will present their assignment and poster board activities
to the class.
The days activities appeal to all students learning styles. Visual learners are able to see
the presentation by the teacher and fellow classmates and by utilizing Google Earth they
are provided with a visual mapping tool. Kinesthetic learners are able to draw, color and
map directions within the poster board activity. Verbal learners are able talk with group
members during activity time as well as, able to present completed projects to fellow
classmates. Interpersonal learners are able complete assignments within a group
setting.

Evaluate & Revise
Student Performance:
The students will be evaluated on the group activity. The main focus will be map skills and
the utilization of Google Earth. TSW demonstrate knowledge of the usage of Google Earth.
TSW demonstrate knowledge of mapping directions and recognize landmarks through the
usage of the directional tool and visualization of the Google Earth Directional tool. TSW also
demonstrate abilities to collaborate within their groups to complete the activities and
consciously work to ensure their partners understand and can complete the activities as
well. TSW will also work together to create an informative presentation for the class.
Instructor Performance:
During the center activities the instructor can listen to the students explain the concepts and
the directions to each other, and begin to ascertain if the material was well taught. When
the students turn in their maps and present their projects, the teacher will have final
confirmation if the lesson fulfilled the stated objectives. If necessary the instructor can reteach the material before the class moves on to other objectives.
Media Performance:
The media that was used, Google Earth serves as a mapping tool that students can use for
directional and location motives. If students are able to correctly note directional information
that pertains to giving proper directions and the locating of useful landmarks, then the media
was used successfully.
