SAFETY/TRAFFIC/LOADING

SAFETY: The time of greatest risk to our students is at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. A
cooperative effort by parents and school personnel will help up start the school year safely and will form
a pattern of safety for the entire year. We will be working with your child on all areas of school safety,
and we know that we can depend on your help. The following is a list of safety hints which we hope you
will discuss with your child.
1. Children who walk to school should use the sidewalk and cross only where the
crossing guard is stationed.
2. Bicycle riders should ride on the far right side of the street only, going with flow
of traffic, unless there is a sidewalk or bicycle lane.
3. If a bicycle rider needs to cross the street, he/she must walk the bicycle across to the
other side.
4. Children should never run or play on or near a street.
5. Children should cross Old Orrville Road with the aid of the crossing guard or another adult.
TRAFFIC PROCEDURES:
Please follow the traffic plan for loading developed by the Selma Police Department and the school
staff.
Morning: When you bring your children to school in the morning (and come to get them in the
afternoon), turn on Pike Road (one block east of the school) and make the loop entering the
loading/unloading area from Acer Road. The entrance to Acer Road from Old Orrville Road will be
closed during arrival and dismissal. Each morning, please drive your car down next to the sidewalk
(Lane 3) as far as possible and unload next to the sidewalk. There is only one lane of traffic for
morning drop-off. (If the right rear door of your vehicle is blocked, please have your child walk in front
of your car to reach the sidewalk) PLEASE REMAIN IN YOUR CAR. If you need to enter the
building in the morning PLEASE park on the far side of parking lot. Please do not block teacher parking
spaces. For the safety of our children NO CELL PHONE USAGE IN PARKING LOT DURING
SCHOOL HOURS. (7:25A.M. UNTIL 3:45P.M.)

Breakfast: Will only be served between 7:25 a.m. until 7:45 a.m.

ARRIVAL; Teachers go on duty at 7:45 a.m. Children should not arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. since
there is no supervision prior to this time. First bell - 7:45 a.m. Homeroom - 7:50 a.m. Tardy bell 7:55
a.m. Classes begin 8:00 a.m. Please make sure your child is on time everyday. It's very distressing for
the child and disrupting for the class when a student enters a class late. Continued tardies will be reported
to the truant officer.
AFTERNOONS: Please form one lane of incoming traffic on Acer Road. Three lanes of traffic will be
formed beginning at the sidewalk in front of the school The outside lane (Lane 1 ) will be reserved for
vans and trucks, the middle lane for trucks and cars, and the right lane for cars only. Teachers on duty
hold flags for signaling the time to begin end loading. When all lanes are filled, the flags will be lowered
indicating children can go to their cars.
When vehicles in all three lanes are loaded, the flags will be raised and all loading must stop. All three
lanes will load at the same time but will be moved out one lane at time when the signal is given.
Children are not to load in cars parked behind the yellow line located at the beginning of the
school's sidewalk. If your child or the children who ride with you have failed to load when it is time for
cars to move, you will need to pull into the parking lot and wait for the child. Do not cross moving lanes
of traffic to get your child. No child will be permitted to load in the parking area until all cars have
moved out. For the safety of all children please follow these guidelines exactly.
REMINDER: NO CHILD IS PERMITTED TO LOAD OR UNLOAD BEHIND THE ANNEX OR
FROM THE SIDEWALK BESIDE THE SCHOOL. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED BY THE
SELMA POLICE DEPARTMENT.

EARLY ARRIVALS FOR AFTERNOON PICKUP: Many parents choose to arrive early for
afternoon pickup. Please remember that all Schools are smoke free campuses. No smoking is allowed
anywhere on campus including the parking lot. Re: schools Policy GBRAAA: Smoking/Tobacco Policy
DISMISSAL: An Extended Day Program is provided for students who need to stay after 3:30. The staff
is not on duty for supervision after that time; therefore, no child should be left after 3:30 for safety
reasons. Children who are left after 3:30 will be placed in the Extended Day Program and payment
will be required when you pick up your child.

NO CELL PHONE USAGE IN PARKING LOT DURING SCHOOL HOURS! (7:25 TIL 3:45)
