Examination

Introduction

The MCPA Certified Network Associate Certification Exam will be primarily formulated to
fulfill the requirement of the Myanmar Local ICT industry in the field of hardware,
Fundamental Network Administration and Basic Networking concepts. This certification
measures essential competencies for microcomputer hardware/system/networking services,
engineer with one year experiences, unless need few on job training for his/her job
environments.
In future, the skill and knowledge measured by this examination will be derived from an
industry wide job task analysis (JTA), validated through an industry wide survey, step of
MCPA Certified Network Professional Examination and other advanced world wide
certifications.

Vendor Nutral means not target to dedicated/specific vendor.

1. Desktop PC Hardware (20%)

1) The knowledge and skills to identify, install, configure and upgrade microcomputer
modules and peripherals, following established basic procedurces for system assembly and
disassembly of field replaceable modules.
2) The knowledge of specific teminology, facts, ways and means of dealing with
classifications, categories and principles of motherboards, processors, and memory in
microcomputer systems.

3) The knowledge of basic types of IO devices, Storage media such as Hard disk drive,
controllers, specifications and resources assignments, types of printers, basic concepts,
components and how they work.

4) The ability to apply knowledge relating to diagnosing and troubleshooting on most


common errors.

2. Desktop OS (10%)

1) The knowledge of installing, configuring and upgrading Windows XP and Vista.


Includes knowledge of system boot and minimum hardware requirements.

2) The knowledge of underlying the Windows files and directories managements and
running programs, partitions and volume.

3) The knowledge to diagnose and troubleshoot common problems on application, files,


directories and file systems.

3. Networking Fundamental (25%)

1) Fundamental networking elements, categories, topologies, media (twisted pair,


coaxial, fiber), connectors, NIC, Hub, Repeater, Media converter, Bridge, Switch, Router of
their purposes, features, and functions.

2) Network protocols and Standards (Understand the seven layers of the OSI model and
each of their functions, protocols in each layer, well known of Devices operated in each layer,
IEEE standardizations of Each 802 standard focus technologies.

4. NOS and Network Environment (20%)

1) Understand the basic capabilities and differences of NOS-Windows Servers,


Unix/Linux, Netware and the basic capabilities of client workstations, the main
characteristics and adventages of Network services.

2) Common NOS of server requirements and minimum requirements.

3) Implementing and Administering the common networking services DHCP, DNS,


FTP, Telnet, NAT, Directory Services, Policies and Remote services.

4) Well known applicable knowldege of TCP/IP Addressing, Subnetting, Class formats,


TCP/IP utilities (ARP, Ping, Ipconfig, tracert....)

5. Network Management (10%)

1) Network and Internetwork connectivity, Monitoring, Optimizing, Analysis of


infrastructure devices: Hub, Layer 2, 3 switches, Routers.
2) Analyzing network performances, traffic and clients accessibilities
6. WLAN (10%)

1) Identify and describe the purpose of the components in a small wireless network
(WLAN).

2) Identify common issues with implementing wireless networks (AP, Wireless router,
wireless NIC, adapter (ad-hoc and infrastructure).

3) Describe standards associated with wireless media (including IEEE 802.11 a, b, g, h,


n of standards specifications).

7. WAN Technologies (5%)

1) Commonly PSTN, ISDN, DSL, T-series, ATM, Frame relay Technologies,


identification, requirements, capabilites.

2) WAN and remote access protocols.

8. Network Security (5%)

1) General requirements and policies implementation for security needs.

2) Data integrity and recovery operations, backup and restore functions.

3) Understanding and operation of Firewall, Log, event report.
