Big Ideas:
A physical active lifestyle will provide health, enjoyment, challenges, and self-expression/social interaction throughout an individual's life
span.
To comprehend that one sport may have similar skills that are used to perform within different sports.
The organization and collaboration of critical elements may be used in and out of sport or physical education and may be applied to general
physical movements (everyday movements).
Unit Goals and Objectives:
Goals:
To prepare students with knowledge and skills of basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer and softball.
For each activity is that students will learn: histories, rules, skills, skill progressions, and sport specific team strategies.
To increase individual self-confidence, knowledge, and participation of physical activity in a physical education setting with traditional sports.
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify one historical event for each sport.
Students will be able to list and summarize three skill components for each sport.
Students will be able to demonstrate team play concepts and strategies in mini-game play.
Unit Summary:
This unit prepares students with the experience necessary in gaining the skills, knowledge, and behaviors required to participate in traditional sports.
Students are expected to be independent and responsible for their own work and actions during physical activity. This course will prepare students
with the knowledge and skills of basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and softball. Through the education of traditional sports students will be
capable of demonstrating and analyzing complex movement patterns and strategies to be successful in each sport. For each activity students will learn
the history, rules, skills, and sport specific strategies.
