Year 11 Class profile


St. Pauls is a Catholic college in the Marist tradition that provides a holistic and challenging education
with a strong focus on academic, sporting and cultural achievements. Principles, respect and
responsibility, and Marist pillars guide students, who are manly Pasifika boys.
There are 23 boys in the Y 11 class. Students backgrounds vary culturally and academically. Majority of
the boys are Tongan (39%) and Samoan (26%). Maori students proportion is 17%, followed by Filipino
and other ethnicities, which represent approximately 18% of the total (in equal share of 9% each).
Although there is a truly diverse student body in interests and ambitions, the majority of the boys share
great passion and enthusiasm for sports, rugby in particular.
Academically, overall levels differ significantly from 3B to 5A.
In general, students in this class:
Ask the teacher if unsure about what they are learning and how to go about it.
Can understand success criteria but may not have an understanding of how these are used to
improve their learning;
Can read or look at exemplars but may not be able to make links to improve their learning;
Are able to speak generally about the relevance of the learning;
Are able to carry out self / peer assessment when they are asked by the teacher and provided
guidelines established by the teacher. However, it is not always leads to reflection;
Have some understanding of their own achievement levels in relation to curriculum expectations;
Listen to the teachers feedback and usually understand how to act on feedback to improve their
work.
Students share and discuss their work when the teacher asks them to, and they understand the
purpose for sharing work and ideas;
Do not identify with the subject.
