Activity
Arrival
The students had morning work at individual desks. When students arrived
they signed in by writing their name. Then they had to put away their
backpacks and check their schedules to see what morning activities they
needed to do.
I went to language arts inclusion classroom with two sixth grade students.
The teacher in that classroom did morning huddle where the students
essentially talked about issues they were facing, how to address them, and
gave kind compliments to each other. It was a great lesson to watch. Then, the
students began to take notes for their lecture. I worked one on one with a
student to help him take notes. I would write some words in highlighter and
then he could trace over the letters to practice writing.
I went to cafeteria time with all the special education students. Today they
each washed several tables and worked on cleaning skills. Since we had a
little extra time after they worked, they got to walk outside to get back to the
classroom.
The students had snack time in the classroom. Some students brought their
own snacks and some ate classroom snacks. I didnt know if they were
purchased by the teacher or not, but I thought it was interesting.
I went to history class with two seventh grade students. They both
participated in the class the entire time and they were very attentive.
Although they did not always grasp the material, they were very hard
working, they listened attentively, and they worked well with partners. I also
got to learn how the teacher modified their lessons. Instead of giving the
students 4 multiple choice options, she would have them read a passage, and
then they had two answers to choose from instead of four.
I went with the same two students to their third block and they were in
language arts class. The teacher was absent for the day, but the substitute
played a virtual lesson for the students. The teacher had recorded a lesson
with her voice and the students paid attention to the lesson that way. It was
incredible to watch and I was so impressed with all the planning that took
place for that lesson.
I had a break for lunch with the two students. I helped them through the line
and then once they were seated with friends, I went to join the rest of the
special education class. They had mostly finished lunch, so they were leaving
after just a few minutes of me being in the lunchroom.
The special education students went to the gym to run off some energy and

12:15

interact with each other. It was fun to throw footballs with them and see them
have fun with each other.

Arrival
I went to language arts class with two sixth grade students. They got to
participate in morning meeting where the class talked about how to approach
the day, they read a short story about character, and then they worked on
identifying theme in a story. The students were able to listen to the story and
write some words. I would write a few words in highlighter and then they
could write over the words.
The students had cafeteria time where I worked with one student on washing
tables. Several other students worked on stacking the shelves with chips, fruit
snacks, brownies, and other treats that students could purchase for lunch.
The students had snack time in the classroom. I simply stood behind a few
students and reminded them to make mature decisions.
I went with my teachers to PE with the sixth grade students. The four boys
changed in the classroom before going to PE. Then when they got there the
class was preparing for the presidential challenge. The boys were doing
pushups, so we tried to help our students do that every once and while, but
after a certain amount of time they were uninterested in the activity.
PE ended and I took one student to FACS, which is essentially a home
economics class. He partnered with another student while they answered
questions to a kitchen safety quiz on an iPad. The teacher used a really cool
app Kadoodle and it was really interesting!
I went to lunch with all of the special education students. I helped them get
their food in line and then we sat with them while they ate their lunch.
Lunch ended and the students went to recess which is held in the gym. I
took a student in a wheelchair up the elevator while the rest of the class used
the stairs.
I went to recess with the students in the gym. I pushed a girl in her wheelchair
around the gym several times until it was time for dismissal.

I went with two sixth grade students to their language arts classroom. I was
able to observe morning meeting and a vocabulary exercise. One of the
students was very rowdy and he had to be removed from the classroom, but I
was allowed to stay with the other student. I am hoping to do an observation

The class went to the lunchroom to sort chips on the shelves, put snacks in
buckets, and wash the tables. I helped one student stay on task as he put the
chips on the shelves.
I went with Emily and Katherine to Mrs. Coffeys office. She is the assistant
principal and she simply wanted to talk with us about expectations as we
begin this new placement.
The students finished snack time in the classroom. Emily and I then hurried
over to the gym for PE with the students.
The students left PE and came back to their classroom to change. I sat with
one student as he worked on a puzzle.
I took one individual to her speech therapy session. It was interesting to see
how the speech therapist worked with her on vocabulary through her
speaking device.
I went to lunch with the entire special education class. We helped them get
their food, requested that they make good choices, and then guided them in
getting their trash to the trashcan.
The students went to the gym for recess time. I played with one boy who
loved to pass the basketball back and forth. It was really enjoyable and it was
fun to see him so happy.

The students participated in morning work and classroom routines.
I went with one student to his general education classroom. The class did
their morning meeting and did a short exercise on non-verbal
communication. Then, while the students worked on their personal stories, I
would write words in highlighter for the student to trace over. I have noticed
that he struggles following along visually with the words, so I am considering
making my observation/adaptation plan for him.
The students came back to the special education classroom. They all went to
the cafeteria to wash tables and stack chips in the lunchroom.
The students went back to the classroom to have a snack. I helped provide
more to students who asked, and I tried to work on saying please and thank
you with them.
The sixth grade students went to PE. I worked with one student in particular
to modify his weight lifting assignments to be more appropriate.
Two sixth grade students went to FACS, which is somewhat of a home
economics class. Today they got to make yogurt parfaits. It was a good
learning experience for the students with special needs because they had to
take turns, work with others, and interact with their peers.
All special education students went to lunch in the cafeteria. I helped students

purchase their meals and then simply reminded them to make wise choses
and use good manners.
The students went to recess in the gym. I pushed a student in a wheelchair
while several other students threw a football. It can be difficult to get
everyone to participate, but it is a fun break for the students.

The students did morning work in the classroom. I monitored the classroom
to keep students on task. I also gave my teacher a social story that I made for
one student.
Two students went to sixth grade language arts class. I went with them and
worked individually with one student. The students had morning meeting and
read a wordless story to determine if you can tell a theme with pictures only. I
wrote notes for him in highlighter and he copied them with pencil.
All students in special education went to the lunchroom to work on social
skills. Some students washed tables and some students stacked chips on
racks.
The students returned to the classroom to have snack time. The student
whom I made the social story for read his story out loud because he was so
proud of it. It was a really exciting moment for me!
The sixth grade students went to PE. They were playing flag football today. It
was not the most developmentally appropriate activity for the students with
special needs, but we were able to make a few modifications for them and at
least encourage them to walk one way or another.
The students came back into the classroom to change out of their PE clothes.
I went to art with one sixth-grade student. It was fascinating to see him work
on his art project and it was cool to see which things he enjoyed and didnt
enjoy.
The students all went to the lunchroom for lunch. I sat with one student who
does not eat at school but eats out of a feeding tube at home. She does not
communicate verbally, so it was an interesting experience, but I enjoyed time
spent with her.
The students went upstairs to go to recess. I pushed a student in her
wheelchair and the other student teacher tried to keep her safe from flying
objects.

Students did morning work at their desks or stations. I worked with one
student in the back of the room and observed his morning routine. It was
different than any routine that I have seen previously. He had three activities
separated in three drawers. He knew his transition cues and he was able to
stay on task very well. I was very impressed with his system and would
definitely keep it in mind for a future special education classroom.
Some students went to their general education classroom, but I stayed in the
classroom and continued my observations of a few older children that worked
in the classroom. Many were working on counting or puzzles.
All the special education students went to the cafeteria to work on social
functioning skills. I worked with the students in the lunch line and they
stacked potato chips onto the shelves.
The students had snack in the special education classroom. I was able to serve
the children their snack and prompt them on proper verbal or nonverbal
communication.
The sixth grade students went to physical education. I stayed one-on-one with
a student while they ran lines in the gym. It was exciting to see the student
fully participating in the activity with little assistance from teachers.
The students came back to the classroom to change after PE.
I went with three older students to the library and worked with them as they
dusted the shelves and cleaned the tables. They knew their routine very well
and when they finished early they were allowed to read a magazine.
All students in special education went to lunch. I sat with a few different
students and simply asked them questions about their likes and dislikes to get
to know them a little better.
The students went upstairs to the gym for recess. I played soccer with two
boys by kicking the ball back and forth to them.

Activity
Arrival I was able to greet some of the students as they walked out of their
cars this morning. It was a cool experience to be with them before school
started and to see them interact with their parents.
The students did their morning work in the classroom. I observed two
different students and they were both working on fine motor skills.
Two students went to their sixth grade language arts classroom. I sat in the
background and tried to give them as much room to be independent as
possible, but I would remind them of proper behavior occasionally. For the
first fifteen minutes the class had morning meeting. Then, from 8:30-9:30 the
students had the guidance counselor come talk to them about bullying. It was
very interesting to listen to her speak to the students.
The students went to the cafeteria a little later than usual today. They seemed
to enjoy the conversations with the guidance counselor and one individual

The two students went to join the rest of the special education class in the
cafeteria to wash tables.
The special education students went back to their self-contained classroom
for snack. They worked on manners, and when they were finished, several of
the students changed for PE.
The four sixth grade students went to PE. Today they played flag football
outside. That is one of the more difficult activities to adapt for inclusion, but
they seemed to enjoy the fresh air.
The students came back to their special education classroom to change out of
their PE clothes. Then, they each went to their individual classrooms of
specials activities.
I went with two students to art. They were working on writing their name in
different forms. I had to do hand over hand with a student because he has
poor fine motor skills, but he did very well in art and was on best behavior.
The students went to lunch in the cafeteria. Today was breakfast for lunch.
This time is one of my favorites because they can be quite comical during this
time.
The students went upstairs to the gym for recess. They practiced for Special
Olympics tomorrow and they ran from one side of the gym to the other to
practice the relay races. It was really fun!

I went with one student to his inclusive language arts classroom. The class
was working on testing, so I read two books to him and then we worked on
writing. I brought the adaptive tool to class as well and it worked very well!
I taught a lesson with one student on identifying different feelings and moods
in the story. He completed the assessment proficiently, but he did act a little
silly at some times during the story. He is a very silly individual though.
The special education classroom went to the cafeteria to stack chips and clean
the tables.
The class went back to the classroom and they had snack and changed for PE.
I went with the sixth grade students to PE. Today was weight lifting day,
which was a little more difficult for the students, but I was really appreciative
of the help and adaptations the PE teacher made for the students.
The students changed out of their PE shirts and then they went to specials. I

Arrival
The students came into the classroom and put away their things. They began
their morning work activities. Many of them had a new activity to do today
which was exciting to see. Today I worked specifically with a young boy on
sorting numbers. He struggled with 2 and 5, but the rest was quite simple for
him.
I went with a student to his inclusive language arts classroom. The class was
taking notes on simile and metaphor. We worked on taking notes as well. I
would write a word for him in highlighter and then he would copy the word in
pencil. I used my adaptive tool to help him write. The tool is simply an index
card with a window so he can only see one letter at a time. This tool helps him
with his fine motor and spatial skills.
The student and I came back to the classroom and I taught a one-on-one
lesson. My supervisor was there to observe the lesson.
My supervisor and I discussed the pros and cons of the lesson plan. It was
great to hear positive feedback as well as ways to improve.
I took the same student to the lunchroom to join his class. Some students
were stacking chips and snacks in the lunch line. I worked with the students
who were in the main cafeteria on cleaning tables.
The students went back to their special education classroom. It was really
neat because we got to walk outside to get back to the classroom so that was
very fun!
The students washed their hands and then we had snack time. I sat next to
one student and prompted him to use his communication device to request
more food. Then, some of the students changed for PE.
The sixth grade students went to PE with their general education peers. They
went outside to play football. It is a very fun activity, but it is not super
developmentally appropriate for our children. The game lacks obvious
structure, so I feel like I have to direct the student more than I should. That is
not a bad thing but I always want them to be as independent as possible.
The students came back to the classroom to change out of their PE uniforms.
At this time it can be a bit chaotic and one individual went into a closet and
drank hand sanitizer. Apparently this was something that he really liked to do
at the beginning of the year so all the hand sanitizer was cleaned out.
Unfortunately one bottle was missed and he got ahold of it. It was scary and
interesting to see the reaction of the teacher afterwards.
I went with two students to FACS, which is somewhat like home economics.

because of his behavior.

The entire classroom went to lunch together. The students did really well
during lunch, but the one student who drank the hand sanitizer was still
acting out and began to throw food.
The students went upstairs to the gym for recess time. I walked around the
gym with one student.

everyone got out of the car instead of going to the classroom to work with the

Everyone went inside to the classroom. The students began their morning
work. I worked with one student on making sure he stayed on task. His task
was a fine motor skills task that required him to sort different colored buttons
into a container.
I went with one student to the general education language arts classroom. The
class was playing somewhat of an icebreaker game where they threw a beach
ball and then answered the question that their right thumb was pointing to. It
was really fun and the young boy was able to participate fully and
independently. Then when the class began to take notes we read a short story
and then he took notes by tracing my words that were written in highlighter.
The students came back to the classroom and then they went to the cafeteria
together. I worked with one student who cleaned a few tables and then he
stacked chips on the racks.
All the students came back to the classroom and washed their hands for
snack. I made popcorn for the students for snack. While some of the students
were changing for PE, one girl threw up. I was really impressed with how
calm the teachers were and how quickly they got her cleaned up and back to
normal.
The students went to PE. Today the four boys were doing exercise rotation
stations. Some activities were pushups, crunches, and jumping jacks. Then
there were also some more intensive gross motor activities. I could tell that
my student did not enjoy the exercise, but it was a good activity that could be
independently adapted in an appropriate way.
The students came back to their classroom to change out of their PE clothes.
I went with two students to art. Today they were drawing upside down and
they were also making stain glass out of letter shapes. It was not actually
glass, but it was the illusion of glass once it was colored. It was a cool project,
but my student was only somewhat interested. I helped him by doing hand

same girl got sick again at lunch today, but again the teachers handled it so
well and efficiently.
The students went upstairs to go to recess. The students played football and
basketball and I would throw the ball to them.
I went down to the classroom to look at an IEP file for a student. We did this
once our clinical hours were over and during a time when students would not
be in the room. We did this because it is one of our clinical assignments due
before the end of next week.
I left the school after looking at the IEPs.

The students arrived in the classroom and they put away their backpacks and

where four students were working on different fine motor activities.
I went with one student to his general education language arts classroom. The
class was writing comics with their vocabulary words, so I wrote words in
highlighter for the student to copy. He used his adaptive device, which was
wonderful, and it helped his handwriting. Then, he was able to listen to the
stories his peers wrote. After listening to the stories, I read a story out loud to
the student until it was time for him to leave.
The students all went to the cafeteria to clean tables and stack snacks. I stayed
with one student who worked on cleaning the tables.
The students came back to the classroom to have snack. I served the snacks to
the students and worked on prompting the children to use their devices if
they are non-verbal.
After the students changed, they went to PE. Today, the students were lifting
weights. We were able to adapt most activities to be appropriate, but safety is
always a concern for the students on weight lifting day.
The students came back to the room to change out of their PE clothes.
Many of the students went to specials. I went with two students to FACS,
which is like home economics. Today they talked about communication and
how to communicate verbally and non-verbally.
The students came back to the classroom to wash hands and get ready for
lunch.
The students went to lunch. I warmed up a meal for one student while

The students came back to the room for snack. They washed their hands and
then I stayed with one student to make sure he did not wander around the

After the students changed they went to PE. Today was flag football day, so I
walked with the students and tried to have them move back and forth with
the teams as much as possible to stay active and engaged in the activity.
The students came back to the room to change out of PE clothes. Then they
went to their specials rotation. I went with two boys to FACS and the class

stayed off to the side and we bounced basketballs back and forth.
The students went back to the classroom to change out of their PE shirts.
Then, some students went to their specials rotation. I stayed in the classroom
for a few minutes with some students though while they did a work station.
I went with four students to the library. Two students dusted all of the
bookshelves in the library and then the other two students in wheelchairs
were able to have books read to them. I read to one of the sweet girls. We
were able to read three picture books during that time frame.
The students came back to their classroom to wash their hands before lunch.
The students went to lunch in the cafeteria. I sat with one student and
continued to heat his lunch. He likes his food very hot, so every 5 minutes or
so, he needs someone to warm it up for him again.
The students went upstairs for recess. We played basketball with a few
students. Then, our teacher presented each of the student interns with a
sweet card. It was so cool to see the pictures and the signatures of each
person that we had interacted with during the placement. I will certainly
cherish that card.
