10-1 Poetry Analysis Assignment

You will complete a poetry analysis (essay) of your chosen poem, using both the TPCASTT format, and
the list of questions you have been given to explore and analyze the piece.
In your analysis, you should include:

An overview of the analysis process you have used

o What are the steps that you have taken?
o What is the order that the ideas of the poem became apparent to you?
o Follow this order in writing up your analysis

A detailed analysis of your chosen poem

o Written in complete sentences
o Explain the function of the poetic devices, and the way that the author has used these
to create meaning and significance in the piece
o Be sure to include your interpretation of the attitude, any shifts, and how these have
affected the message

Explore and explain the message of the poem

o What do you think the author is trying communicate?
o How do you know?
o Provide evidence
o Show how you have connected these ideas
