Competency: the Student


States what he is/is not able to do when speaking about sports and skills orally and written.
Compares what he is/is not able to do to what his/her classmates are able to do orally.

Rationale: Students are able to explain what they are/are not able to do in different contexts
when speaking within different contexts.
Lesson Content: vocabulary: sports,daily activities, can-cant, yes/no questions.

Instructional Procedures
a.

Warm-up:
Do you like sports. Show photos of famous sports people(Lionel Messi,Michael Jordan, Alex
Rodriguez,Tony Hawk,Erick Barrondo) how many names of sports do you know in English.

b. Teaching procedures
Vocabulary presentation: judo, jogging, tennis, skiing, ice hockey, soccer, baseball, basketball,
swimming, rollerblading.

Vocabulary Activity: Memory game in groups (sports flashcards/names)

Presentation: can-cant / yes-no questions


Explain sports cominations with play/ do

Controlled practice: pair work: ask questions about sports.
E.g: can you play soccer

Semi controlled practice: report parteners responses.


Vocabulary presentation II: skills: sing, cook, draw, paint, play chess, dance, ride a bike, use a computer
Vocabulary practice: match the picture and the name of the skill (worksheet).

Semi controlled practice: Interview: Students chack what they can and cant do from a list of activities
and ask two classmates if they can or cant do the actions presented in the list.

Free practice: students compare and share information about the people they interviewed.

Closure: students report what they can or cant do and rank the top 5 activities in pairs.

d. Feedback: check on students pronunciation for can-cant and sentence/question formulation.

Formative/ Summative check: formative; students formulate questions and sentences using can
correctly orally and written.

g. Homework: investigate how to say in English. 5 activities they like to do (not mentioned in class)

Evaluation Procedures: oral interaction, written sentences.
