Paragraph#2
The Unknown Citizen is written by Wystan Hugh Auden. This poem has something that I want to
argue with, imagery as his writing style allows us to see pictures clearly of the main character.
Additionally the poem clearly displays how is his lifestyle. Firstly, he describes the character by
adapting from experiences or a routine daily life of ordinary people. An example of this stanza,
That he was popular with his mates and liked a drink. (The Unknown Citizen. Stanza 13). Another
example, The Press are convinced that he bought a paper every day, (The Unknown Citizen.
Stanza 14) allows us to see the images of lifestyle. Secondly, the author is trying to give pictures to
readers about dangers are unpredictable. Also, he is encouraging people to apply more security for
safety. He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Installment Plan (The Unknown Citizen.
Stanza 19), a good example for this idea. Third, A gramophone, a radio, a car and a
frigidaire. (The Unknown Citizen. Stanza 21). It illustrates technologies during 1950s like a radio is
the only way to know news around the world at that time. In the end, W. H. Auden has come up
good writing styles, whichever allow readers to see images of this poem clearly.!
