Many health concerns are facing today's women. Why is womens health so
important? Women are living longer and are encountering more and more health
challenges. In the past, womens health research focused on fertility and reproduction,
while research regarding other diseases focused on men. Thus, it is important to identify
this inequitable situation so that women can be diagnosed and treated accordingly. The
overriding purpose of this study was to determine the health issues of working women
aged fifty to sixty five in Angeles City, Philippines.
The study is a quantitative descriptive type. It is done through the use of a selfadministered questionnaire. It was validated by five experts and the results from pilot
study underwent Cronbachs analysis to determine its reliability. The questionnaire is
composed of a checklist and a seven-point bipolar scale. The respondents were chosen
based from the following criteria: they should be females aging 50-65 years old, working
in Angeles City, Philippines excluding self-employed. The researchers used purposive
sampling and the total number of respondents was 146.
Most of the respondents have a physical health issue of eye problem, mental health
issue of poor memory, emotional health issue of stress, social health issue of staying
indoors and no spiritual health issues. The majority of the respondents physical, mental,
emotional, social and spiritual health issues moderately affects physical well-being, diet,
work, finances, recreation and social relations and other aspects of their life, but those
health issues do not affect the respondents marital, sexual and family relations.
Based from the results, all health issues do not the affect the marital, sexual and
family relations. Since there are health issues experienced, the researchers recommend
this to nurses, to educate patients, especially women aged 50-65 years, of the possible
health issues they may encounter and preventive measures for such.
