Cyberbullying is Everywhere
According to Websters
dictionary, cyberbullying is the use of electronic postings of mean
-spirited messages
about a person (as a
student) that is often
done anonymously. This has become a
major issue over the
past decade as the use
of technology has started at a younger age
every year. As younger
children take to the
internet, they find it
easier to be mean to
people because there
is no immediate repercussion and the whole
anonymous factor
plays a huge part as
well. The younger children do not realize that
once you put something on the internet, it
is there forever. Not

long ago, going home

was an escape
for children being
bullied, these
days that is not
the case. There
is texting, you
tube, facebook,
tumblr, twitter
and dozens of
more social media networks for
kids to harass
other kids
on. Parents
need to be more
aware of what
social networking sites
their children are affiliated with and what
they are posting.

Animoto
Animoto is a cloud based
video creation service using
pictures, video clips, and
music to create video presentations. You can go to their
website, www.animoto.com,
and create a free account.
With a free account, the longest video you can create is
30 seconds. You can up-

grade with a small fee and

make longer video presentations. Animoto has pictures
and video clips you can use for
your presentation or you can
upload your own photos if they
are saved on your computer or
from a flash drive. When creating your video, the process is
kind of like PowerPoint, in the

way that you do one slide at

a time. Your will pick several
videos, enter text, or pictures
one at a time. You can then
pick the order of your slides.
Once you think you have finished you Animoto you can
preview your video. This is a
really cool tool that every one
should check out.

PowerPoint
This month is Technology
month at Johnstone Elementary school. We are taking a
look at the different technologies available to us to use
in the classroom, whether it
be for a presentation or for
instructions or for a lecture.
We challenge you to take a
look at and participate in
some of these technologies
so you can see exactly how
your students are learning.
Two of the more popular
technologies are PowerPoint
and Prezi. PowerPoint is a
Microsoft office software
program designed to create
electronic presentations
consisting of different slides
that present different infor-

mation. PowerPoint is easy

to navigate when creating a
presentation. There are
different templates you can
choose for your background
and once you have selected
a background, you can
change the color template.
Just like Microsoft Word, you
can select your own font as
well. You can add pictures,
videos, music as well as
animating your slides.
Animation is a feature on
PowerPoint that allows you
to spice up your presentation. Instead of the slide just
appearing with all the information, you can make the
information pop up in differ-

ent fun ways. For example,

you can select fade in, spin,
random bars, etc. Along with
the animation, you can add
sound to when your your
information pops up also. All
in all, PowerPoint is easy to
navigate, does not require
internet access (unless uploading pictures or videos
from the internet), and a
great way to present information.

is one large image that

zooms to different smaller
spots that contains your
information. You can choose
which spots to show and the
order they go in by editing
the path of your presentation. You can also embed
videos, pictures, websites,
music, and even a PowerPoint presentation. The
other benefit to using Prezi is
that it is web based. There-

fore, if you forget to email

your PowerPoint to yourself
or leave your flash drive at
home, you simply login to the
Prezi website and pull up
your Prezi. All you have to do
is create your Prezi and save
it. Another interesting aspect
of Prezi is that you can post
your Prezi and share with
anyone who logs in. Both
programs are fun interesting
ways to present information.

To catch the reader's

attention, place an
interesting sentence or
quote from the story
here.

Prezi
Prezi is a cloud based
presentation software and
storytelling tool used for
presenting ideas virtually.
Prezi is a little harder to
navigate but has a lot of the
same features. You can
choose different templates
as your background and font
and font color. The layout of
a Prezi is different that PowerPoint thought. Instead of
having different slides, Prezi

Digital Citizenship
A digital citizenship
pledge is something that
is used to help the
teachers, parents and
students have a better
understanding of the
proper way to use the
internet and the sources
it has to offer. There is
usually a pledge for the
students to sign and a
separate pledge for the
parents to sign. The
student pledge is more
key pointers for how to
use good sources on the
internet and to ask an
adult if they are unsure
of a website, to treat

other users with respect,

or just for help in general. The parents
pledge asks that the
parents monitor their
children on the internet
and to be more involved
in the technology they
are using. It also asks
that the parents monitor their childrens internet usage. These
pledges are partly in
use to help put an end
to cyberbullying. A lot of
parents have no idea
what their children are
doing on the internet so
a digital citizenship

pledge is a
good way to
get the parents involved.
