Nick For Oxford

I was OUSUs Academic Affairs Campaigns Officer for a year and

Graduate Academic Affairs Officer for a year, as well as representing
students on many University, Department, and College committees.
Im used to lobbying the University on behalf of students, and I
know how OUSU operates. Finally Ive been an undergraduate,
Masters and DPhil student here and so have seen the university at
all course levels. This experience enables me to represent students
across the board.

VICE PRESIDENT (GRADUATES)

Dissatisfaction with taught Masters courses at Oxford is
too high. I will run a survey and focus groups to review
these courses, ensuring students reality matches their
expectations. I will also support the Graduate Academic
Affairs Officer and Vice President (Women) in examining
the taught Masters gender gap, and explore how all
students can attain, regardless of gender.
Being a research student is difficult and good supervision
is key. I will encourage better relationships between
students and supervisors by lobbying Divisions to
introduce Minimum Expectations for supervision. However
funding remains the biggest barrier to graduate students
taking a place at Oxford, or succeeding while here. I will
continue to lobby the University and colleges to provide
the best funding possible for both Masters and DPhil
students throughout their course.

While there is now more graduate accommodation, getting

this still depends on your personal circumstances or
allocated college. I will continue to push for more
graduate accommodation. However it is not fair to
combine this with rent hikes: I will lobby the University to
keep rent low, and to justify rises with comparable
increases in graduate funding. I will also assist the
President in supporting graduate Common Room Presidents
with rents and charges negotiations.
Teaching opportunities are often based on who you know.
I will push for more teaching across departments, and
will encourage departments and colleges to make
allocation of teaching more transparent. However, graduate
students are often thrown into teaching unprepared. I will
push for all divisions to introduce more training for
graduates, benefitting both tutors and undergraduates.

The wellbeing of graduate students is a serious problem

at Oxford, both for academic attainment and accessibility.
I will conduct a survey similar to one run at Imperial
College London assessing graduate students wellbeing,
and use this to urge the University to make
improvements. Like Masters results, Imperial found a
significant gender gap and I believe these issues need
tackling with urgency.

Im working For Oxford to ensure graduate voices are heard as loudly as undergraduate ones and
that the university listens to our concerns. I am working with a team of great graduate students, and
with undergraduates like Will and Flora who care about making your student union more accessible
and representative for all.
Vote in 6th week and have all of your voices heard.
