BURLINGTON -- An unconscious, injured man was found in City Park Sunday night,
the second reported assault in eight days. Burlington Police said both victims are
fearful of their seemingly faceless attacker.

Burlington resident Aiden Douglass, 54, was found unconscious next to the park
carousel late March 3. After being rushed to Alamance Regional Medical Center,
Douglass was treated for a broken leg and internal injuries. Burlington City Police
Sgt. Kathlene Jones said Douglass looked as if he had been pummeled.

The attack is similar to an incident that occurred Feb. 23 when April Easterman, 36,
lost consciousness and woke up in front of her Fountain Place home with slash
marks on her arms. Police said both victims fearfully described their attacker as a
very tall, thin man in a black suit who seemed faceless and who may have had a
white stocking covering his face.

The description of the attacker is similar to the Internet myth known as The Slender
Man. The Slender Man is described as an extremely tall man in a black suit, white
shirt and thin black tie. He is known for having no defined facial features and is
notorious for stalking his prey for years at a time.

What is going on in our community? asked Jones, as she addressed the press
Monday. We need help from the community.

Douglass remains in the hospital in stable condition. Easterman was treated and
released last week.
