TO THE MOON!

To The Moon! commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing: “the
most hazardous and dangerous and greatest adventure on which man has ever embarked,”
in President Kennedy’s words.

You can listen on the CD, or experience the music with the short film on the DVD.

The central concept of the piece is a dissonant chord (C, A, C#, E, D#) which represents
the audacity and uncertainty of NASA’s goal. The orchestra reflects on the harmonic and
melodic implications of this chord, leading up to an allegro with solos for horns and
trombones. A triumphant return to the original theme brings the piece to a close.
