flag of the United States of the original 13 states. This is also call the Betsy Ross flag. To create the circle of stars you will have to use the Circular Pattern tool To create the first star you will have to use the Polygon Tool.
A challenge for this flag is find the proper axis of revolution for the stars and the dimensions for the stars and rectangles. To do this you will add a point to a work plane and then create an axis through that point. 1. Create a standard part in inches. Standard (in).ipt 2. Create a new 2D Sketch 3. Draw a rectangle centered at the origin that is 5.000 by 3.000 inches. Click on Finish Sketch.
4. Extrude Join to 0.250 inches and click OK.
5. Create a new 2D Sketch and draw the 5.00 by 3.00 inch rectangle, draw 12 equally space horizontal lines down the rectangle. The distance between the lines is 3.00 inches / 13 stripes = 0.231 inches and click on Finish Sketch.
6. Extrude join the alternate spaces (stripes) between the lines to a distance of 0.250 inches. There are 7 raised white stripes. If you are unable to Extrude Join all of the stripes at once then extrude join them in separate extrusions, you will have to create a new 2D sketch for each extrusion. 7. Create a new 2D Sketch on the top of the stripes and draw a rectangle in the upper left hand corner that is 1.750 wide by 1.385 inches down. Click on Finish Sketch.
8. Extrude Join the rectangle to a distance of 0.250 inches and click OK.
9. On the rectangle that was just extruded create a new 2D sketch and draw a doward pointing pentgon that is 0.285 inches from the top of the rectangle and 0.875 inches frlof the left side of the rectiangle the pentagon is 0.058 inches from flat to point. Remove the the dimensions so you can use the Trim tool to cut out the internal diagonals. 10. Extude join the star outline to a distance of 0.250 inches outward and click OK.
11. Create a new 2D Sketch on the base plane of the stars. In the Workplane section of the ribbon select Point and scroll down to Center point of Loop of Edges (shown in Red).
12. In the Work Plane section of the ribbon click on Axis and scroll down to Normal to Plane through Point (shown in Red). Click on the point that was created in Step 11 and axis perpendicular to the plane should appear. You will use that axis as your axis of revolution for the circular pattern. 13. On the ribbon click on the Circular Pattern Icon click on the Star as the Features and then click on the axis on the work plane as the Rotation Axis. In the Placment box type in the number 13 and click OK.
14. If you selected the proper work axis (shown in red)above your part should have a circle of 13 stars around it, like the diagram below.
15. Rotate the flag to show the bottom edge.
16. Create a new 2D Sketch on the bottom edge and draw a rectangle that is 5.000 by 0.750 inches and click Finish Sketch.
17. Extrude Join the rectangle to a distance of 0.500 inches and click OK.
18. Rotate the flag so that you can see the bottom block.
19. Create a new 2D Sketch and use the Text Tool to write your first last and period and US 13 in the box.
20. Emboss the text to a depth of 0.10 inches and click OK.
