Unit 3 Writing Prompt:

Think about the complex characters in the literary works you have been studying in
class. Think about how these characters interact with others or how these characters
advance the plot. Identify a character that you think deserves to be admired and
identify the reasons you believe they deserve admiration.

Write an essay in which you argue that your chosen character should be admired. Be
sure to state your claim precisely, distinguishing your claim from alternative points of
view. Develop your claim and counterclaim fairly, providing evidence for each while
acknowledging the strengths of your claim and the limitations of the opposing point of
view. Provide a concluding statement or section that supports the argument presented.

Remember to use words, phrases and clauses to link the sections of your text to create
cohesion and clarify relationships between your claims and your reasons. Write in a
formal style with an objective tone.
