Reading Strategy: Quick Write
Description: A Quick Write is a literacy strategy which can be used in any content area to
develop writing fluency, to build the habit of reflection into a learning experience, and to
informally assess student thinking. The strategy asks learners to respond in 210 minutes to an
open-ended question or prompt posed by the teacher
Summary of Video: History Channel has put a video of the real life account of Japanese
Internment Camp survivors. It explains how the camps were and how Japanese Americans felt
when they were in the camps. Also it has WWII survivor give his account of how it was during
his service in the military for a Japanese American.
Modifications: Do a PowerPoint presentation on the survivor accounts. Also discussing the video
before we do the assignment would be a good way to clear up any confusion.
Additional Activities: Instead of using a video, we could use a transcript of a Japanese
Internment camp survivor interview and read the real life account of how they were treated
during their time in the camp.

Thematic Units, Topics, or Literature Units: History.com has many videos and shows that relate
to history. While they are both educational and entertaining.
