Procedure: Procedures when exiting the classroom

Rationale: Why is this important? The reason for having a plan when exiting the
classroom is to first ensure students exit the class with enough time to reach their
next period class. The second reason is to ensure the class is prepared for the next
class as they enter the room to be prepared to begin their lesson for the day.

Steps:

1. When directed by the teacher you will secure all of your belongings.
2. You will check your desk and around your desk on the floor for any trash
to be picked up and placed in a trash receptacle when exiting the class.
3. You will place the school text in the middle of the desk by stacking them
neatly with the dictionary on top.
4. Once the bell rings you will stand up and place your chair under your
desk and depart in an orderly fashion.

Check for understanding: Ask open-ended questions pertaining to the steps.

Rehearse:

Explain to the students that you will rehearse the above procedures a few minutes
before the end of class to ensure they fully understand the expectations of exiting
the class room and leaving it in a state of preparedness for the next class.

Give feedback:

Point out in a positive manner those that demonstrated the proper procedures and
help those as needed.

Reinforce:

Continue to reteach and practice the steps as needed to reinforce the expected
