CONFERENCE APPLICATION Guidelines: - All teachers presently under contract with the Board who plan to attend a conference, either in province or out of province, must complete this form. (Does not include October Conference Day.) - Normally, the P. D. Committee will support expenses (including travel days) for one day before and one day after conference. - The maximum conference allowance is $2000.00 per two budget years (April 1- March 31). - No more than 5 out of school days will be approved per budget year. - The committee reserves the right to limit the number of teachers per school attending any given conference. Normally, a maximum of two teachers from the same school can be approved for any given conference. - Please refer to contract articles 60.30, 60.31, 60.32, 60.33 and 60.34 ON REVERSE. - If the P. D. Committee is made aware in writing of additional or unforeseen costs prior to attendance at a conference, funds may be made available providing the original approval amount is under the $2000.00. - The P. D. Committee reserves the right to limit the number of times a teacher attends the same conference. - Approval from P. D. Committee must be given prior to the applicant attending the conference. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED BY THE COMMITTEE AND WILL BE RETURNED TO THE APPLICANT. Application Process: PLEASE CHECK EACH BOX AS THE STEP IS COMPLETED. Step 1: Complete this application form Step 2: Attach a cover letter including reasons for attending Step 3: Attach a conference brochure with relevant session details Step 4: SUBMIT request to be absent online (Code 35 NSTU PD - Conference) Step 5: Attach the Principal or Immediate Supervisors APPROVED Copy of RTBA To This Application Step 6: Submit this package to your Principal for approval. Step 7: Forward the approved package to the Family of Schools Supervisor. Step 8: Upon approval, Family of Schools Supervisor will submit the forms to the P. D. Committee. PLEASE NOTE: This Conference Application must be received at the PD Office in Springhill 5 school days prior to the monthly meeting date (see P. D. Binder). PD Committee approval must occur before attending conferences. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Step 9: The teacher will be informed via letter of the decision of the P. D. Committee. Step 10: Complete the claim form attached to approval letter and submit to the P. D. Committee. Article 60.30 Prior to seeking funding from the Committee a teacher shall seek approval of the necessary leave from the Superintendent or designate of the School Board. Such approval shall not be unreasonably denied. The applicant shall be notified of the decision within ten (10) days of the School Board decision.
Article 60.31 Following the approval from the Superintendent or designate of the School Board the Committee shall deliberate and, where the priorities and criteria specified in 60.09 have been met, advise the applicant of their decision within five (5) days of the meeting of the Committee.
Article 60.32 Conference expenses shall be paid at the rates established by the Committee. Expenses may include such travel costs as approved by the Committee.
Article 60.33 All charges, excluding metrage or approved meal allowances, must be supported by receipts.
Article 60.34 Notwithstanding 60.30 and 60.31, the Committee shall establish procedures to provide funding for teachers to attend the annual NSTU Professional Association Provincial Professional Development Conferences.
