evidence in your paper
Turning Assignments in on time
Developing World is a better phrase than 3

world
Ask ourselves?
Did I do research for this paper?
Did I use appropriate sources?
Did I say where I found my sources
You must revise and improve your paper
This second draft is due on Tuesday 28
October
You must meet original requirements (200
words, original work)
You must add appropriate research and
citation*
HOW TO: find and use reliable Internet sources
What is appropriate research? How do I do it
What is plagiarism?
What is citation?
Credibility of source:
Why was this site created? Is there any bias?
Who is responsible for this site? What are their
credentials? Is it a trustworthy organization or just
an individual?
Does the author document his/her own sources?
(say where they got their information)

Relevance of source:
Can you understand what is being said?
Is the site user-friendly? Do the links work?
Does it give a date the information was created or last
updated?

What is the URL ending?

Now what?
I will know
You will not get credit
You will get a bad grade
Read and evaluate the information
Do your best to pick out the most important
parts
Take notes, and use your notes to write the
information in your own words
If you find a quotation or a very powerful
statement, then make sure you put it in
quotation marks
To plagiarize means to commit literary
theft.
To present as new and original an idea or product derived
from an existing source.

You must give credit to the owner of the
information that you use in your paper,
otherwise you are STEALING!

Anytime you use a direct quote, or even
change an authors words, you are using
somebody elses thoughts.

Simply changing the wording (paraphrasing)
is not enough; you must cite your sources.

When in doubt, CITE! Its better to be safe
than sorry.

What is appropriate research? How do I do it
What is plagiarism?
What is citation?
As you know, in order to prevent plagiarism,
we must cite our sources.
Citing, simply means we say where we found
our information, who did all this research for
us to use
There is a specific method of citing sources,
and certain ingredients are needed, in a
specific order, for the citation to be correct
and in MLA format.
Easybib
Always use MLA format
Once you have citations for all your sources,
put a list at the end of your paper.
Put the name of the author in (parentheses)
after listing a direct quote or citation
As a British coffee exporter once stated to
millions in this continent, coffee means the
difference between too little to eat or
enough (Pendergast 251). Indeed, over 15
million Ethiopians depend on the coffee
trade for whatever meager income they
currently receive (Petit 225). Coffee also
accounts for 60% of Ethiopias foreign
exchange revenues and is vital to its GDP
growth (Adebe 80).
