What is it like to be an American?
I look back the all of the possibilities given to me, and how much of it we all take
advantage of everyday without even knowing and recognizing them. I look around.
People everywhere. Not even realizing all of the change that has been happening at a
rapid speed for ages.
I look back to all that has happened. In the past people were risking their life for
equality and freedom in the revolutionary war. What were all of those soldiers truly
fighting for when risking everything in battle? They knew the greatness of being an
American. Every step, every plan, every sacrifice was for the sake of the freedom. This
all lead to the rebuilding and improving society including segregation, civil problems,
and the protection of the people. But those men and women cannot do it all. Everyday
people help each other all the time. Their support can make the small things better to
make a big difference in others lives. Should they be rewarded for their actions? Do we
all really do our part to help each other?
Many great achievements have come from people working together for one
important goal. One of the most inspiring events in history was the march on
Washington. On August 28, 1963 thousands of people rallied in Washington D.C. to fight
for equality for African Americans: As blacks faced continuing discrimination in the
postwar years, the March on Washington group met annually to reiterate blacks demands

for economic equality (History.com). These people had one goal and stood up for their
equality. With the voice of 200,000 people, the march was a huge success. The
Americans were even having fun doing it. They were singing and dancing; all the while,
fighting for their rights of equality. The march was truly a symbol of hope to everyone
with the working force of blacks and whites fighting for their equality (History.com).
People werent just fighting for the equality for African Americans supporting
teamwork unity was in 1920; the year that women were finally able to vote. Years of
petitions, speeches, and marches paid off so they got the same rights and responsibilities
as everyone else (History.com Staff). There was many struggling times, as said from
History.com The leaders of this campaign did not always agree with one anotherin fact,
sometimes their disagreements threatened to derail their movementbut each was
committed to the enfranchisement of all American women(History.com Staff). If you
share a common goal and are loyal to your cause, anything is possible. This stand
improved the equality and all the women in American.
While some may argue that America is viewed as an Individualistic society and
that is why there is so much change in the world for the better; saying that, Our
individualism differs from all others because it embraces these great ideals: that wile we
build our society upon the attainment of the individual, we shall safeguard to every
individual and equality of opportunity to take that position in the community to which his
intelligence, character, ability, and ambition entitle him(Hoover). Those people think
that Individualism is the only safe future for human progress that every man and women
will have the gift to encourage development for the best for everyones heart and mind
(Hoover).

It is possible that an individual society is the key America. But, each and every
person has a different prospective to our society. Is it really only one type of society in
America. Or is one society really is the significant value that bring transformation in
America for the improvement of our nation?
