Reading Strategy: Frontloading with Images
This is used before reading or taking part in a unit to help the students visualize the meaning
before learning about the subject (or book) in its entirety. This helps the student visualize and
understand a setting, context, problem and people involved.
Modifications: The students can work individually to examine the book for the images if they
rather work alone, or they can work in a group to pull out the meaning and context behind the
images.
Additional Activities: When starting a new unit the teacher can use a warm up for students to
draw the context or idea out of in order to focus on that days topic.
Thematic Units, Topics, or literature units: This strategy is a great way for students to
visualize a time period as well as practice observation skills instead of just assumptions.
