Rationale for Classroom and Behavior Management Strategies that Support a Positive
Learning Environment
The artifact I selected to demonstrate classroom and behavior management strategies that
support a positive learning environment is the lesson plan on Rules and Laws as well as a photo
of the students product from this lesson. The artifact was chosen for many reasons. To begin,
the students truly enjoyed the lesson. The students worked well together in groups and came up
with many great ideas. I, also, selected the artifact because it challenged the students to turn their
rules into positive statements. The students had to think critically and work together to turn their
rules such as, dont lie into positive statements such as always tell the truth. I believe that
students get discouraged and frustrated because they are constantly told, dont do that or stop
doing this. When I had the students turn negative statements into positive statements they began
to have a different perspective on managing their own behavior. Also, the lesson corresponded to
the appropriate standard on learning for the state of Virginia. The SOL 3.10.1 states, that the
students will recognize the importance of government in the community, Virginia, and the
United States of America by explaining the purpose of rules and laws (Virginia Department of
Education, 2014). I am confident that the students not only understood the SOL but are able to go
forward and apply it to their own lives. Having the students create their own rules and revising
the rules into positive statements holds them accountable for their own actions. When a student
disobeys their own rule and, as the teacher, you remind the student that these are the rules that
they created, the student is less likely to argue about the rules. The students understand what
being accountable means. The rules are displayed in the hallway as a daily reminder for the
students. This lesson gave students a sense of responsibility and pride especially, when the
students saw their work displayed in the hall.

Reflection for Classroom and Behavior Management Strategies that Support a
Positive Learning Environment
This particular artifact and lesson mirrored my philosophy on classroom and behavior
management. One of the most important things I have learned from Regent University is that
having positive strategies to manage a classroom and behaviors will lead to having a productive
year for the students and teachers. This specific artifact demonstrates to students on how
important it is to be accountable for your own action. Having good strategies to manage
classrooms and behavior will result in less disruptions and misbehavior and therefore, leads to a
productive learning experience for all students. My faith guides me to have a good understanding
on how having a positive, nurturing, but structured perspective on classroom and behavioral
management will help me help my students to reach their potential.
