I. Instructional Objectives:
Math: After the lesson on graphing, students will design and label a graph with 80%
accuracy. (CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.B.3)
Science: After the lesson on how snow is formed, students will apply the knowledge
learned to answer a critical thinking question with 80% accuracy. (GLE 0107.8.1)
Social Studies: After the lesson on the history and traditions of Christmas, students
will match and identify questions on the quiz with 80% accuracy. (GLE 1.1.02)
Language Arts: After the lesson on writing letters, students will construct a letter
with 80% accuracy. (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.1)
Art: After the lesson on basic art skills, students will create a Santa Wish List Holder
with 80% accuracy. (GLE 1.2.12)
Reading: After reading two different versions of The Night Before Christmas, the
student will compare and contrast the two version with 80% accuracy. (CCSS.ELA-
LITERACY.RL1.9)
Introduction
A. Label the Learning: Today boys and girls, we will read two version of The Night Before
Christmas
B. Relate to Students Frame of Reference: Raise your hands and tell me what comes to
mind when you think about Christmas.
C. Relate to Prior and Future Learning: Yesterday, we talked about Thanksgiving, and
tomorrow, we will talk about New Years.
D. Involve Every Student: The students will discuss their favorite Christmas memory.
II. Instruction:
A. This is a New Learning.
B. Skill: After reading two different versions of The Night Before Christmas, the student will
compare and contrast the two version with 80% accuracy.
o Relevance and Importance: The skill is to compare and contrast which is a
lifelong skill.
o Examples and Non-Examples: Examples would be correct responses, and
non-examples would be incorrect responses.
o Provide Participation in Learning the Skill: The students will participate in
class discussion.
o Appropriate Practice: The students will complete worksheets and have a
review.
o Apply Skill: The students will take a test.
III. Monitor: I will walk around the classroom asking questions and receiving immediate
feedback.
IV. Teaching Strategies:
o The teacher will ask about Christmas memories (Teacher Centered Inquiry) (Pre-reading)

V. Description of Organization of Student Learning: During the reading of the story, students
will be sitting in a circle on the floor. After reading the story, students will go back to their
desks and remain there for the remainder of the lesson.
VI. Adaption to Diverse Students: Krista is visually impaired. I will provide copies of the
worksheets with larger print in order for her to be able to see it. Also, she will sit in the front
of the class closest to the board.
VII. Lesson Evaluations:
o Students will be asked to tell what they learned in class that day as an example of informal
assessment.
o Students will receive an exit ticket that they must complete before leaving the classroom.
o Students will take a summative test at the end of the Christmas unit.

IX. Student Practice/Review: Students will receive and identify vocabulary words from the
story.
X. Media and Materials Used:
o The Night Before Christmas: Will be read in class.
o The Redneck Night Before Christmas: Will be read in class.
o Smart Board: Used to project the Venn diagram of comparisons and contrasts found in the
stories.
o Word Wall: Shows the vocabulary words found in the story.
XI. Option: If extra practice is needed, students could write their own versions of The Night
Before Christmas and compare and contrast their stories with others students stories.
