SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICS Prepared by Ms. Rhodeliza D.L. Tiotangco BSEd Science 4A
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students with at least 70% proficiency level should be able to: a. define Series and Parallel circuits operationally; b. construct a simple series circuit; and c. recognize the importance of series and parallel circuit in a household.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Unit II Chapter 7 Electric Circuit Lesson: Series and Parallel Circuit
Physics IV Science and technology textbook for fourth year Authors: Eulalia N. Bentillo and Josefina Ll. Pabellon pp. 153 156. http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/circuits/Lesson-4/Series-Circuits http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/physics/phys03/bsercir/default.htm
C. Materials needed: - Battery - Light bulb - Copper wire - Electric tape - Teacher made visual aids.
1. What symbol is normally used for a battery? 2. What is the usual symbol for the switch? 3. Why do we use these symbols?
c. Set induction
Title: Make me light up
The teacher will give various materials: Battery Light bulb Copper wires Electric tape
The students will form 5 groups and make the bulb light up with the given materials and with the help of the video clip presentation.
d. Unlocking of Difficulties:
Circuit is the complete path around which an electric current flows Current is a "flow" defined as the rate of a quantity passing a given point per unit time. Rheostat an electrical instrument used to control a current by varying the resistance. Voltage is the force that causes current the flow in a circuit
B. EXPLORE
1. What did you do to make the bulb light up? 2. What was the particular component to make it light up? 3. What household material can be made through the experiment?
C. EXPLAIN
Series circuits
The current through series component is equal The voltage drops across each component in the circuit sum to the source voltage. Also, in a series circuit, all components of the same type may be combined to result in an equivalent value. Is that the amount of current is the same through any component in the circuit. This is because there is only one path for electrons to flow in a series circuit, and because free electrons flow through conductors A device is connected in a manner such that there is only one pathway by which charge can transverse the external circuits. Examples:
Parallel circuits
The voltage across every parallel component is equal. Has more than one resistor and gets its name from having multiple paths to move along. Charges can move through any of several paths. Is one that has two or more paths for the electricity to flow, the loads are parallel to each other Examples:
D. EXPAND
The students will differentiate Series and Parallel Circuits:
E. EVALUATION
Multiple choices: Write the correct answer beside the question.
1. Which of the following statement does NOT describe a series circuit? a. Resistance adds up draws less current b. Brightness of bulbs are less c. Current splits- passes through pathways adds up again d. Battery last longer 2. Which of these statements BEST describes a Parallel circuit? a. Battery life is shorter b. Current splits- passes through pathways adds up again c. A closed circuit in which the current divides into two or more paths before recombining to complete the circuit d. Brings more electricity than series circuit.
3. Make a correct sequence of a series connection using the illustrations below.
I II III IV a. I, II, IV, II b. III, I, IV, II, I C. IV, III, I, II
4. What are examples of Series circuit? a. Flashlight and Christmas lights. b. House lighting and home wiring c. Emergency lights and flashlight d. None of these
Write the Importance of Series & Parallel Circuits in a household 5. In the following statements, which will show the important use of a Parallel circuit? a. When you unplugged the first thing (like a lamp) in the circuit, everything else in the circuit would go out. b. Allow devices to be added or removed from the circuit without affecting circuit continuity. c. It gives equal amount of current and voltage. d. None of these F. EXTENDED RESEARCH / ABSTRACT
1. What is a series parallel connection? 2. Make your own example of series parallel connection using the common electric symbols.
