OCTOBER EDITION

Be Responsible and Do Your Job, Be Respectful, and Be Safe


Happy October!

Wow! We are already in the rst week of October! The leaves have been
changing, the weather is getting a tad chillier, and we have been busy in
second!grade!
Now that it is our sixth week of school, we are really into the swing of
curriculum and routines! The students have adjusted very well to the
exciting changes in our room! We received our new seat pockets for each
childs seat for materials, new mailboxes, and new class jobs.
Units of Study this Month
Reading and Language Arts
While implementing our Daily 5 Activities everyday: #Read!to!Self, Work!
on!Writing, and Meet!with!Teacher$, we have also been studying many
literacy concepts. We have been learning about: Context Clues, Cause and
E%ect, Venn Diagrams, Information T!Charts, Setting, Characters, Plot,
Genres of literature.
Math
Unit One will be wrapping up on Friday, October 17th with our Unit One
Test. We have been studying even and odd numbers, adding and
subtracting doubles, word problems, equations, comparison bars, and
Making Ten strategies. Unit Two pre!test will be Oct. 20 & 21
Writing
We have been continuing to learn about Personal Narrative Writing. They
are real stories about moments in our lives that already happen. We will
continue writing about events that happen in our daily lives, pets, family
members, and friends!
Science and Social Studies
We are currently studying Soils in science! We have been experimenting
with real materials and recording our observations in science notebooks.
Following our Soils Unit, we will begin The History Of La Crosse for
Social Studies!
It is a pleasure having the privilege to see, teach, and impact your children
