SCHOOL LOCATION

Tigbahi Elementary School is located in the Barangay Bayog, Canlaon City. It is located
on a flat land area which is situated in a five thousand (5,000) square meters lot. The lot
was donated by a kind hearted woman, the late Felisa Dayanan.
Tigbahi Satellite School was established in 1988 as a satellite shool of Bayog
Elementary School by the late Honorable Mayor Jose B. Cardenas. The school was only
handled by 2 teacher assistants financed by our local government for two (2) years. When
Mr. Ecalina, a division Superintendent found out that the school was only handled by
teacher assistants, it was temporarily closed for 2 months. Mr. Engracio Abaria, the District
OIC that time assigned a nationally paid teacher. It was then re-opened on September 2,
1992 and the schools become Tigbahi Elementary School in the School Year 1997-1998.
Sitio Tigbahi is located in the South-Eastern part of Barangay Bayog. It is generally
located in the North-Eastern part of Canlaon City which is five (5) kilometers from the city
proper and about two (2) kilometers from its mother barangay. It is accessible by all types
of transportation especially through motorcycle for hire locally known as habal-habal.
Sitio Tigbahi is a part of Barangay Bayog, Canlaon City. It has a total population of
1,582 based on the barangay statistic Report last 2007. There are more or less 112
households with an average household population of 4.8%. Based on Barangay data, only
38% from the total population have finish elementary education, 18% aging from 11 to 16
years old have enrolled in high school with an average of 11% graduation rate and only
10% in college.
The 89% graduation rate in the elementary level is evidence that most of the people in
the area are illiterate. This is the one of the problems further leading to low income.

SCHOOL HISTORY

Tigbahi is a sitio of Barangay Bayog which is 5 kilometers away from Canlaon City. It
is one of the rice-producing sitios in Canlaon with majority of its inhabitant dependent in
farming for livelihood. Sugarcane, corn, banana, mango, camote, and other roots crops are
also cultivated in the area. Although majority of the people do not own a rice field, Tigbahi
is stable when it comes to rice production. However, the income of the people is not
sufficient to sustain their childrens education. As such, some of their children look for jobs
in the cities after they graduate from Elementary. Others stop and continue their high
school education with their age already beyond high school level. They cannot find jobs in
cities if they are not at least high school graduates.
The unstable economic condition of the populace forced the parents to let their
children absent from classes to work especially during planting and harvesting season.
During this time, all members of the family have to work in order to survive. Too many
absences make pupils lost interest in school. Eventually, they may drop out from school. On
the other hand, the distance from their homes to school and the exhausting crossing of
rivers and rice fields put such a strain in the pupils listening and learning ability.
Gambling is another problem that affects quality education. Pupils are influenced by
people and some parents who are engaged in gambling such as taksi , billiards, mahjong,
cards and other games.
Smoking and drinking hard liquors are another factor which can affect quality
education. These things seem to be the core problem which also affects the students
learning.
Sitio Tigbahi is a third class barangay headed by Barangay Captain. It has an interval
Revenue Allowance (IRA) which provides for the basic needs of the people like medicine,
cash assistance during the hospitalization, food and goods in kind during calamities and
others. These are made available through the support of the city officials headed by the
mayor.
