Assignment 1: Information Literacy
1. California OKs first tests of self-driving cars
2. I found an article from CNN that named California OKs first tests of self-driving cars.
Google and Audi developed their self-driving cars. Although they have already tested
their cars in other countries and other states in the United States, they never got the
permit from California before. Recently, California just issued an autonomous driving
permit to these two companies, and they are allowed to test their self-driving cars in
California which means a lot to them.
3. I used two different search engines which are Yahoo and Google to search the same
keywords. As a result, Yahoo shows 5,380,000 results and Google shows 1,470,000
results which means Yahoo has more 3,391,000 results than Google. But I do not think
the Yahoo search engine is better than Google, because in first page of Yahoo results I
saw 7 results are same article in the different website. I think Yahoo gives too much
unnecessary and useless information when you search something, and its hard to get the
information that you want.
4. The article which I found was written in September 8, and it has not been updated. It
does relate to my topic. The author is Charlie Osborne, she is qualified to write about this
topic because she is a professional biography. The information from this article are

trustworthy and supported by evidence. This article is the material objective, and it was
written to inform.
5. Keywords: Self-driving cars
I used Ebscohost database, because the self-driving cars are an application of a new
technology, and the introduction of the Ebscohost database shows it is about the
Ecology, energy, natural resources, science, technologyand more.
6. First and foremost, the articles from the internet are easier to access. Because the internet
is more public than the CCBC library databases. Anyone can use internet search engines,
but not anyone can use library databases for journal articles. However, because of the
publicity of the internet, the results on the internet are very disordered. If you use the
internet to search your key word, for example, I used the search engine to search
self-driving cars, the advertisements of some car companies might pop out.
Additionally, the articles from the internet are timely resources, because the internet
updates the news and articles very frequently. Nevertheless, because the journal articles
need time to do some research and to publish, the articles may not be very well-timed.
Thirdly, the journal articles are more authoritative. Because the journal articles might
need several years to prove one topic and to do some research, the results from these
articles are more reliable and doctorial. On the other hand, the internet articles might just
report some news, and anyone could publish some articles on the internet, so they are
less authoritative than journal articles.
