DEMOGRAPHICS OF

STUDENTS.
A look into local students.
AGE RANGE
As we are all in the same
year group, everyone is
either 17-18.
MALE TO FEMALE RATIO.
As you can clearly see
the ratio in the class of
male to female is
dominantly male.

This could be due to an
odd mix in the classes.

THE COUNTY STUDENTS LIVE IN.
There are two main
areas of England that
these students come
from.

This is due to the fact
they are within the
Henley college area.

This mainly indicates
theyre in a class E
social grading.
ETHNICITY
The majority of students in
the class are white British.

This is can be due to the
predominantly white
population of Britain.

MARITAL STATUS
Unsurprisingly the huge majority of
students were/are single.

This can be due to many reasons.

One such reason could be the
growing anti-social culture that is on
the rise due to the increased
popularity of social media sites.

Or the heavy work load that college
students face or jobs that they take.
RELIGIOUS BELIEFS
The majority of the people
surveyed are atheists, this is
probably a result in the
increase of scientific thinking
which correlates to the
decrease of any overtly
religious beliefs.
There are also a reasonably
large amount of agnostics,
and one Buddhist.
PSYCHOGRAPHICS
The majority of the class
responded that they dont
fit into one specific
psychographic profile; this
could be because often
people, especially,
teenagers dislike being
put into clear categories.

Also, a few people were
conflicted as they felt that
they fitted into more than
one category
EMPLOYMENT
Most of the students here are
either unemployed or have
part-time jobs. This is unsurprising
as students are clearly unable
to have a full-time job due to
lessons. It also emphasises the
fact that the majority of our
class are in the E social
category.
TV GENRES
Most of the people in this class
have chosen Drama as their
preferred television genre,
possibly because this is a very
diverse genre which appeals
to a wide audience.
POPULAR TV CHANNELS
BBC channels are the most popular
in this class, this probably links to the
E social class of the class as the BBC
is typically a middle to lower middle
class channel with a reasonable
range of programmes which appeal
to a large demographic.
POPULAR WEBSITES
YouTube and Google are the
most popular websites used by
members of this class.

Both these websites give access
to a wide range of media and
visual entertainment, which is
obviously appealing to anyone
no matter what demographic
they relate to.
HOURS OF TV WATCHED A DAY
Television is probably one of
the most popular forms of
media consumed by this class.
It has a wide range of
television programmes which
apply to essentially every
demographic depending on
which channel is preferred.
ADDITIONAL MEDIA
The graph to the left clearly shows
that magazines are the preferred
form of additional media in this
class, possibly because there are
so many different genres of
magazines (and also books) so
they appeal to people in a range
of psychographic profiles and
demographic profiles.
VISITS TO THE CINEMA EVERY 6 MONTHS
The majority of people
surveyed said that they went to
the cinema once or twice
every 6 months.
This is a relatively small amount
but considering everyone
asked was a student with an
assumed relatively low income,
this is understandable due to
lack of funds.
PREFERRED TV GENRES
The preferred genres of
televisions is an indicator that the
aims of people who watch
television is to escape from
reality and be entertained by
what they consume.

This all relates to the uses and
gratification theory as opposed
to the hypodermic needle
theory, showing that viewers in
this class are active viewers of
television.
HOURS SPENT ON THE INTERNET PER DAY
Most of the people surveyed
said that they used the internet
11-14 hours a day.
This may seem very high but
considering that the internet is
accessible on most of the
devices we use throughout the
day it is understandable as the
internet is used for so many
things.
MUSIC-RELATED WEBSITES
Soundcloud and iTunes are the most
popular music sites used in this class.
This is probably due to the high
number of students surveyed who use
iPods or iPhones.
Soundcloud could also be more
popular than Spotify as it has fewer
advertising interruptions and has a
wide range of music to choose from
which is uploaded by the artists
themselves on occasion.
