adaptations to different environments (3-10)

Specific Learning Outcome (SLO):

examples of extinct animals (8)

Relevant ICT Outcome:
Perform basic computer operations: moving the cursor, clicking on icons, executing programs,
printing, etc. (F6.1.1)
Access hyperlinked sites on an intranet or the Internet (P5.1.2)
Create visual image by using paint/draw programs for particular audience and purpose (P3.1.2)
Integrate text and graphics to form a meaningful message (P4.1.1)

Description of Activity:
Students will visit the website www.sheppardsoftware.com and click on Animals for Kids and
then Endangered Animals. They will be allowed a few minutes to explore the site: the Overview,
Whats the Problem? And How to Help. After giving them free time, direct them to Endangered
Animals Game! found in the top right corner of the page.
Have kids complete the game clicking on all the animals and answering the multiple choice
questions attached until they get them all right.
After completing the game tell them to pick one of the threatened animals they learned about or an
extinct animal and create a Missing Poster for their animal using the schools drawing program. It
should include natural habitat, man-made or natural threats to their environment, and what they
can do to help. Print the final product

Rationale for Computer Integration:
Computers have been integrated into this assignment to allow students to explore on their own and
use technology tools with little assistance. Students learn to use technology tools expertly and
gather information through the Internet. They also learn to balance visual images and text to create
a pleasing/dynamic effective poster. Printing allows them to share their work with the class.
