How to Make a Valuable Friend Out of Your Local Fire Official
Presented by: Brian Love Course Description- Numerous entities play key roles in the design and construction of commercial and residential projects. State Fire Marshals offices play one of these roles. Through plan review, site inspections, and project oversight, these people are instrumen- tal in the development of projects and in emphasizing life safety on construction projects. This program will review the Marshalls role in key aspects of construction projects.
Learning Objectives- *understand the State Fire Marshals role in plan review *learn the difference between building codes and life safety codes and where they are applicable in design *When to include fire code officials in the design process *Common design concerns encountered from a Fire Code officials perspective *Understanding the importance of construction materials and how they perform in Life Safety situations

ROI Return on Investment by Matthew Walsh, CDT
I know it may seem a little early for this, but this year we are slightly modifying the Awards Gala and re- branding it Member Appreciation. We all pay dues, and this event is covered, so why not show up? Its a good time, and we get to recognize not only our membership, but others in the industry who we feel have delivered a project in an extraordinary way. Its not just for specifi- ers, but for contractors as well. They are part of the built community so lets start looking outside the box!
My challenge to all the other representatives out there:
What projects are you working on? Are any of them exceptional? What about contractors you are working with? Make note of them. In the upcoming months we will be looking for submissions. Being recognized by CSI for outstanding craftsmanship or extraordinary project delivery is an accolade that anyone would be honored to display in their lobby.
My challenge to the membership:
Who do you see in the chapter that goes out of their way to better our group? Is there someone that shows up to all the meetings, looks for new members and greets them, or participates in all the events? Lets recognize these folks as well.
Regards, Matthew M Walsh, CDT Page 3
