Education is the process of teaching or learning in a school
or college, or the knowledge, skills, and habits that you get
from this. There are mainly three types of education, namely, Formal, Informal and Non-formal. Each of these types is briefly described below. A. Formal Education 1. It is given in school, college and similar other institutions. 2. It is limited to a specific period. 3. It is well-defined and uses systematic curriculum. 4. It is given by qualified teachers. 5. It leads to certificates, diplomas, or degrees 6. It observes strict discipline. B. Informal Education 1. It is a life-long process. 2. The individual learns from exposure to the environment at home, society, group, daily work, leisure, etc. 3. It is incidental and spontaneous. There is no conscious effort involved in it. 4. There is no prescribed time-table or curriculum. 5. It may be negative, also. C. Non-Formal Education Non-formal education is one of the recent concepts getting into use. Non-formal education has increased as a result of our interest in making education a life-long affair rather than a matter of formal schooling. 1. It does not lead to certificates, diplomas, or degrees. 2. It is organized in a school-like setting. 3. Its a second chance for those who havent attended school before or drop out of it. 4. It is not part of the formal system of education. Mohamed Lahbib KATHI
