"rading Procedures
Each grade that a student earns will be calculated utilizing the point system. Therefore, a
point value will be determined for assessments. Overall, a students score will be divided by
the number of total points to establish a percentage at the end of each marking period. All
letter grades will correspond with the students earned percentage as per the eters Township
!chool "istrict grading scale.

The following assessment items will be combined to determine student grades#

Throughout the marking period the teacher will administer e$ams, tests and %uizzes to
evaluate student learning. !tudents will receive prior notification as to when e$ams will
be given. The teacher may administer %uizzes as per her discretion. ((A comprehensive
mid)term e$am will be administered in *anuary to gauge students knowledge+mastery of
first semester material. The score for the mid)term e$am will be part of the second
%uarter grade.
*ail+ Assignments
"aily assignments focus on day)to)day work that is essential for the learner to comprehend
material presented in class. Therefore, a few e$amples of daily assignments are as
follows# %uestions as per specified te$t, grammar and vocabulary e$ercises, manipulative
bulletin board work, entrance activities and focused free writes. !tudents are e$pected to
keep all assignments in a binder for teacher review throughout each marking period. These
assignments may be considered for an individual assignment grade O, they may be scored
according to the 'lass articipation -below. portion of the %uarter grade.
Papers and Pro,ects
All students are re%uired to write numerous papers throughout the school year. The value
of the writing process will be illustrated and recognized through the various course
assignments. !tudents will also be re%uired to revise and resubmit written work after the
original piece is scored and the student is provided with comments and suggestions for
improvement. Also, students will be e$pected to complete oral, written and multi)media
pro&ects. "ocumentation will be completed via /odern 0anguage Association -/0A. style.
All students are e$pected to master the use of /0A when citing and providing
documentation.
Class Participation
'lass participation includes, but is not limited to, an active involvement in large+small
group discussions, collaborative group work, full attention in class while respecting all
members of our learning community, homework and written and oral assignments. Each
student will be given a total of fifteen -12. class participation points at the onset of each
grading %uarter. oints will be deducted for lack of responsibility on the part of the
student, lack of respect for other students or the teacher, lack of involvement in group
activities, incomplete homework, failure to submit assignments, etc.
-u.mission o$ Completed Assignments
3f for any reason a student cannot attend school, it is /#-0/E1 responsibility to make up any
missed work. lease consult the !tudent)arent handbook to become familiar with the make)
up work policies. 3n the event that a long)standing paper or pro&ect has been assigned, the due
date stands. #$ a student is recorded present at an+ time during the school da+& the
assignment must .e su.mitted to the teacher. 0ate arrivals and early dismissals are not
e$cuses for submission of late work. 0ong)range assignments will be penalized 245 of the total
possible points per each day late. 3f for some unfortunate reason the student is legally absent
for a length of time, arrangements should be made. 0astly, when the bell for the beginning of
class sounds, assignments are due.
Punctual Attendance
!tudents are to be in the room A6" seated A6" prepared .e$ore the late bell sounds.
Academic #ntegrit+
The Advanced lacement 0anguage and 'omposition class is a college level course. 7our
behavior, work ethic and actions should meet the e$pectations of the learning environment. 3n
the event that a student breeches the academic integrity of the A 0anguage class -e$#
plagiarism, etc.. that infraction shall be formally identified. lease review the eters Township
!tudent+arent 8andbook and !tudent 'ode of 'onducts 'heating and lagiarism section.
Also, please refer and adhere to the T!" !tudent 9se of Acceptable Technology olicy for
:7O" activities.
Materials
The following materials should be purchased and brought to class every day#
one two)inch three ring binder with a clear front cover
college ruled notebook paper
notebook dividers
highlighters
post)it notes
folder to house papers in the classroom
pen and+or pencil
Also, you are re2uired to cover your books. Adhesive book covers are not to be used.
