METHOD STATEMENT (MARINE PILING) For marine piling, working platform is either floating barge or fixed jack up platform. Normally floating barge are kept in position using suitable anchors and maintaining them according to tidal variation of location or used spud barge. Jack up platform stands on its leg resting on sea-bed, so tidal variation does not effect on working. Before starting any work and mobilization of piling equipment, rough bathymetric survey to be done to estimate water depth as well as sea- bed profile on that particular area. If accurate local bathymetric data is already available then this step may be skipped.
Mobilization to be done considering factors like depth of water, tidal variations, nature of sea wave and current etc. Approximate position of piling location is worked out using marine survey system (Say DGPS system) using atleast 2 known points on shore. After tracing position of piling location piling working platform to be shifted and set at that location.
Temporary guide casing then lowered and installed in to sea-bed. Once guide casing is fixed, center of casing is checked and maintain the accuracy of piling. Once this set-up is complete, it becomes ready for piling work. First guide casing of suitable diameter is embedded into sea bed sufficiently to ensure no drifting of bottom. Then drilling etc completed as like on shore piling work.
