Impact of Tourism Industry on Employment in India: Its Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract:
Tourism is related to travel for recreational, leisure or business purpose. Today in India tourism
industry is the most vibrant and profit making sector. It has lost of potential for growth and
exploration. It is not only the growth engine for the country but also an employment generator
because of large number of subsidiary industries associated with it. This paper provides an
insight about employment opportunities as well as the challenges that are faced by the localities
of tourist destination. This paper also explores that there has been significant increase in
employment opportunities due to the initiatives taken by the government. These efforts of
government will definitely generate rewards for India in the coming years. The paper is based on
secondary data which is collected from WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council), authorized
websites of Government of India and journals.
