It is important that your child comes to school
everyday.
If your child is absent, you must provide a
written note explaining the absence. Please
be aware that vacations and personal days
are not excused.
Only excused absence will be allowed to
make-up classwork assignments.
All unexcused absences will result in a zero
(0) being issued for any work missed on the
day of the unexcused absence.
Attendance Policy
Early Dismissals
Please try to avoid picking up your child
before the scheduled dismissal time as this
interrupts his/her learning.
When students leave school before
dismissal, they miss work assignments
and their grades may be affected.
Attendance is taken in both classes.
Students must follow classroom and
cafeteria rules.
Rewards: verbal praise, treats, treasure
box, and certificates

Sunday) to complete their assignnments
First nine weeks is for students to practice and get
acquainted with the program.
Second nine weeks- A grade will be given
according to the average comprehension
percentage of the three areas.
80% & above
Reading comprehension tests are given weekly:
Cold Reads: Consists of a passage at grade level
that the child has not been exposed to. Success on
this test shows how students are comprehending
independently.
Graphic Organizers: Students will implement
different reading skills thru the use of graphic
organizers in class for the week (Coached/Taught)
Language Arts grades consist of weekly spelling
tests and grammar/writing.
Reading / Language Arts
Focus in Math involves problem solving.
Solving problems by using different strategies.
Have students identify key words in math
problems.
Help students learn their multiplication facts.
Make flash cards using index cards for your
child. Students must memorize facts.
Weekly multiplication quizzes will be given.
(will be timed)
Instructional Program - Math
FASTT Math:
This program will help your child learn and practice
their multiplication facts
It is encouraged that your child use this website
at least twice a week to practice their skills

Focus is to use reading strategies to
comprehend text.
Grades are based on understanding the
text.
Students are allowed to use their books
when completing assignments.

Accelerated Reader AR
Students must read and test 3 books weekly.
Students should attain 75% or higher on their
test.
Library day - Bring books to school every
day.

Computer Literacy
Home Learning
Daily written assignments for 45 minutes.
Students must read 30 minutes every
night.
Practice multiplication facts daily.
Reading Plus 3 sessions 4 assigments
per week.

Times are pre-determined as follows: 8:30-9:00 a.m.
Conferences will be attended by both teachers
within the allotted time frame.
You may also send a note with your child throughout
the year and we will schedule conferences as
needed.
