Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Room 206! As your childs teacher for the next semester, Id like to share information about
the art classroom, culture and activities at Huntington Middle School! As parents, your involvement and
understanding of your child's experience is crucial to their success in school.
To start off, Ill talk about what your student will be studying in my class. This class is an introduction
into art appreciation as well as preparation for higher level art classes. The elements of art will be studied
and applied to personal expression in two and three dimensional projects. Students will explore the
creative process through projects and by studying individual artists and art movements throughout
history! Well take a look to the Kelso community for inspiration and share art from world cultures and
learn steps in analyzing and critiquing artworks.
Art Club is every Monday, all year long. I encourage students to enter art contests, participate in the
middle school art show and district-wide art shows, and we also participate in community events such as
the Happy Dentistry Paint the Parking Lot event. Some of these activities involve bravery in showing
artwork to a large audience. Parent support and encouragement are vital in making these events
successful and fun! If youre interested in participating in Huntingtons art world, please contact me!
Im really looking forward to the wonderful weeks of teaching, working and learning from an energized
group of students. Exploring the creative process allows students to use their minds in different ways;
developing new methods of thinking and propelling an adventurous attitude towards their work.
I appreciate your support. All of us, working together, can make this a terrific experience. Please sign the
form attached and return it with your child. If you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please feel
free to contact me via email (brooke.eckelberry@kelsosd.org) or phone (360) 501-1740.

In order to provide the best possible learning environment for your budding artists, we will be
discussing our guidelines for behavior in the first days of class. This allows every student the
opportunity to manage his or her own behavior and will be in effect at all times.
REWARDS: Appropriate behavior will be reinforced with participation points, special activities
and privileges within the classroom. Each student has the right to work in a positive learning
environment. If a student chooses to break a rule, the following consequences will be imposed.
CONSEQUENCES: Violation of classroom and school handbook rules will result in loss of
privileges, morning detention, a call/email to parents, and/or referral to administration. Severe
misbehavior, such as fighting or harassment will result in the immediate removal from the
classroom for the duration of the period or as long as the school administration may determine.
Creativity takes
